How do I get a director of data governance job in Chicago?
The strongest path in Chicago is targeting financial services firms in the Loop, health systems on the Near North Side, and enterprise technology companies in Fulton Market, as these sectors drive the bulk of local demand. Candidates who combine formal data governance frameworks like DAMA-DMBOK with demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams have a clear edge. Building relationships through Chicago's active data and analytics professional community also opens doors that applications alone rarely do.
Which companies hire director of data governances in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring director of data governances in Chicago include Avanade, Applied Systems, and BMO Financial, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's hiring mix skews toward large financial institutions, integrated health systems, and enterprise software firms with major Midwest operations.
Are there remote director of data governance jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though with limits, since director of data governance roles involve significant stakeholder collaboration that many employers prefer in person. About 67% of director of data governance openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote arrangements more common at technology-forward firms than at banks or health systems. Strategy and policy work tends to flex remotely more readily than hands-on data stewardship coordination.
How can I get a director of data governance job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is moving laterally from a data analyst, data steward, or compliance analyst role at one of the city's large financial institutions or health systems, which frequently promote from within. Roles like data steward, data quality analyst, or MDM analyst at firms in the Loop or River North are the practical on-ramp. Earning a CDMP certification and contributing to governance committees strengthens candidacy noticeably in Chicago's risk-conscious financial and healthcare sectors.
