Director Of Research Operations Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a director of research operations in Delaware?
Most director of research operations roles in Delaware require at least a bachelor's degree in a life science, public health, or research-related discipline, with a graduate degree increasingly preferred at larger institutions. Delaware does not issue a state-specific license for this role, but employers at academic medical centers and pharmaceutical firms like those in the Wilmington corridor typically expect candidates to hold or pursue credentials such as the Certified Clinical Research Professional designation through ACRP or a similar research management certification.
Which companies hire director of research operationss in Delaware?
Employers hiring director of research operationss in Delaware right now include Incyte Corporation, AstraZeneca, and University of Delaware, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters and academic health systems means demand is particularly consistent among biotech firms and hospital-affiliated research institutes headquartered in and around Wilmington and Newark.
Which Delaware cities have the most director of research operations jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle account for the greatest number of director of research operations openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads because it anchors the state's pharmaceutical and financial services research sectors, while Newark benefits from its proximity to the University of Delaware and Christiana Care, both of which run active clinical and health sciences research programs that require operational leadership.

The most realistic path is to start in a coordinator or project manager role within a clinical research or biomedical setting, then build toward operations leadership. Large Delaware employers such as Christiana Care Health System and Incyte often hire clinical research coordinators and study managers who grow into operational roles over time. Earning a research coordinator certification through ACRP or SoCRA early in your career signals readiness, and demonstrating regulatory knowledge and budget management in adjacent roles like grants administrator or research compliance specialist can accelerate the transition.
