Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
U.S. consular officers assess whether your degree field directly relates to global project management. A bachelor's in engineering, business, or IT maps cleanly. If your Australian degree is in an unrelated field, document your progressive project management experience to bridge the gap.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data for companies that have previously filed LCAs for project manager roles. Employers with existing LCA experience understand the process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer due to unfamiliarity with E-3 visa requirements.
Brief your hiring manager on E-3 before the offer stage
Many U.S. employers conflate E-3 with H-1B visa and assume a lottery is involved. Clarify early that the E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been exhausted, no lottery, and a DOL processing timeline of around seven business days for LCA certification.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA and paperwork
Global project manager roles often involve complex job duty descriptions that must satisfy specialty occupation requirements. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA filing, DS-160, and consulate preparation so nothing is misfiled under pressure.
Negotiate a start date that accommodates consulate scheduling
E-3 visas are issued at Australian consulates, not through a change-of-status process if you're applying from Australia. Build at least four to six weeks of buffer between your signed offer and your proposed start date to account for interview scheduling and passport return time.
Confirm your employer is prepared to sign the LCA as the petitioner
The LCA requires your employer to certify the offered wage meets DOL prevailing wage standards for the project manager role and location. Verify with HR that they have a registered DOL FLAG account and are willing to file before you resign from your current position.
E-3 Visa Global Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Global Project Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Global Project Manager roles from employers with E-3 visa sponsorship history. Searching through Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for companies that have filed LCAs for project management positions, which removes the guesswork of approaching employers who have never sponsored an Australian national before.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Global Project Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as project management, business administration, engineering, or information technology. Roles where any unrelated degree is accepted as sufficient may face scrutiny at the consulate. Your job offer letter should specify the degree requirement explicitly to support your specialty occupation claim.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Global Project Manager roles?
The E-3 has a significant practical advantage for Australian nationals: there is no lottery, the annual cap of 10,500 visas has never been filled, and your employer can file an LCA with the DOL and have it certified in roughly seven business days. The H-1B involves a lottery with selection rates well below 50%, making the E-3 the more reliable path for project managers who already have a U.S. offer in hand.
Can I switch employers on an E-3 while working as a Global Project Manager?
Yes, but you need a new LCA and visa issuance tied to your new employer before you begin work. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you cannot simply transfer your existing visa status. If your new employer is ready to move quickly, the LCA certification process typically takes around seven business days, after which you'll schedule a new consulate appointment in Australia.
