Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Civil Project Manager
Get your credentials formally evaluated first
Australian three-year engineering degrees are generally accepted for E-3 visa purposes, but your employer's immigration counsel may still request a credential evaluation. Get a formal equivalency report before your first interview to avoid delays at the offer stage.
Target infrastructure and federal contractors specifically
Civil Project Manager roles at firms with active federal contracts tend to have established E-3 sponsorship processes. DOT-funded road, bridge, and transit projects require licensed civil expertise that Australian professionals routinely provide, making sponsorship a standard expectation.
Search for employers with active E-3 sponsorship history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Civil Project Manager roles by employers who have sponsored E-3 visas before. Targeting companies with prior E-3 filings cuts the time you spend educating hiring managers about the visa process.
Clarify your Professional Engineer registration status early
U.S. employers hiring for project management roles that require a PE license need to know whether you hold one. An Australian CPEng doesn't automatically transfer, so confirm with your employer whether PE licensure is required before the offer is drafted.
Have your employer file the LCA before you leave Australia
The DOL Labor Condition Application must be certified before your visa interview. Confirm your employer has submitted the LCA to DOL and received certification, then attend your consulate appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth with the certified LCA in hand.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Once you have a written offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment paperwork. This avoids the common mistake of arriving at your interview with incomplete or mismatched documentation.
E-3 Visa Civil Project Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Civil Project Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Civil Project Manager roles filtered by employers with E-3 sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't distinguish between employers who will sponsor an E-3 and those who won't, so you end up spending significant time on applications that stall at the visa conversation. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Civil Project Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Civil Project Manager roles typically qualify as E-3 specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a closely related field. The key requirement is that the degree must be specific to the role, not just any bachelor's degree. Roles where the employer accepts any degree field are less likely to qualify.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Civil Project Manager roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals but has no annual cap and no lottery, so there's no randomized selection process. H-1B applications enter an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and a specific filing window each spring. For Civil Project Manager roles, the E-3 lets you start working as soon as your visa is approved rather than waiting for a lottery outcome.
Can I switch employers or projects while on an E-3 as a Civil Project Manager?
You can change employers on an E-3, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL before you begin work for them. Your E-3 status is tied to the employer named on your LCA and visa, not to you individually. Moving between project sites within the same employer is generally fine as long as the worksite locations and wages remain consistent with the certified LCA.
