Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Program Director
Frame your CV around program scope
U.S. employers evaluate Program Director candidates on budget authority, staff headcount, and cross-functional accountability. Translate your Australian experience into those terms before applying so hiring managers can immediately see your specialty occupation fit.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Nonprofits, healthcare systems, and federal contractors file LCAs regularly and have HR teams familiar with E-3 visa sponsorship. Searching DOL's LCA disclosure data by job title filters out employers who've never sponsored an Australian professional.
Address E-3 sponsorship in your cover letter
Many U.S. employers confuse the E-3 with the H-1B lottery. Your cover letter should name the E-3 directly, clarify there's no lottery cost, and note that the employer's main obligation is filing an LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service post-offer
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork from start to consulate appointment. This avoids the common mistake of letting employers stall while you wait on their legal team.
Verify your degree field matches the role
USCIS requires your degree to align with Program Director responsibilities, not just any bachelor's degree. A degree in public policy, organizational leadership, or a relevant sector like health administration strengthens the specialty occupation case significantly.
Plan your consulate timeline around your start date
E-3 consulate appointments at Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth can book out several weeks. Work backwards from your employer's proposed start date and factor in LCA certification time with DOL so you don't arrive at the interview stage without a valid LCA.
E-3 Visa Program Director: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Program Director jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter Program Director positions by employers who have a history of sponsoring Australian visa holders, which cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Program Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, Program Director roles typically qualify because they require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as public administration, nonprofit management, business, or a sector-specific discipline like public health or education. The key is that the job description must tie the degree requirement to the actual responsibilities, not treat any bachelor's degree as sufficient.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Program Director roles?
The E-3 is significantly more accessible for Australian nationals. There's no annual cap lottery, so you can apply at any time of year rather than waiting for an April registration window. Employer costs are lower, processing through a U.S. consulate is generally faster than USCIS adjudication, and the visa renews in two-year increments indefinitely as long as you maintain qualifying employment.
Can I change Program Director employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but the process starts fresh with each new employer. Your new employer must file a certified LCA with DOL before you can begin work, and you'll typically need to attend a new consulate appointment to get a fresh E-3 stamp. If you're already in the U.S., you can also pursue a change of status rather than returning to Australia, though consulate processing is more common for E-3 holders.
