E-3 Visa Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician Jobs
Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician roles qualify as E-3 specialty occupations, requiring a medical degree and subspecialty fellowship training. Australian physicians can secure sponsorship without competing in the H-1B lottery, and the visa renews indefinitely in two-year increments as long as you hold a qualifying MFM position.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician
Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
U.S. hospital credentialing requires ECFMG certification for international medical graduates. Confirm your certification status is current before pursuing offers, as sponsoring employers need this confirmed before filing your LCA with DOL.
Target academic medical centers and perinatology programs
Large academic hospitals and maternal-fetal medicine fellowships programs employ MFM physicians with E-3 history. Departments with existing Australian staff have already navigated the specialty occupation and prevailing wage documentation your petition requires.
Use Migrate Mate to streamline your filing process
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. MFM roles involve complex prevailing wage determinations across hospital and outpatient SOC codes, which require accurate DOL classification from the start.
Clarify your state medical license timeline with your employer
Most hospital credentialing offices require an active state medical license before your start date, separate from your E-3 approval. Negotiate a start date that gives you time to obtain licensure, as MFM roles cannot begin under a pending license in most states.
Confirm your fellowship training meets specialty occupation requirements
The E-3 requires a theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge. Your MFM subspecialty fellowship is the qualifying credential, but your employer's LCA must specifically reflect MFM duties, not a general obstetrics classification.

Find Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician JobsMaternal-Fetal Medicine Physician E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 sponsorship roles. Filter by Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician positions to find employers who have E-3 filing history or are open to sponsoring. Because MFM is a subspecialty with a smaller hiring pool than general medicine, targeting employers with established international physician programs significantly improves your chances.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Maternal-Fetal Medicine is a board-certified subspecialty requiring medical school, residency in obstetrics and gynecology, and a two- to three-year MFM fellowship. This training structure satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement, which demands at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a specific field directly related to the job duties.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian MFM physicians?
The E-3 is exclusively available to Australian citizens and has no lottery, so there's no random selection process that could block your start date. The H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, meaning even a fully qualified MFM physician could wait over a year for selection. The E-3 also has no cap on renewals, which suits the long tenure typical in academic MFM appointments.
Can I start a new MFM position while my E-3 transfer is pending?
The E-3 visa does not offer cap-gap or portability protections the way some other work visas do. You generally need a new E-3 visa stamp issued at a U.S. consulate before beginning work for a new employer. Plan for a consulate appointment in Australia or a third country between positions, and negotiate your start date to allow adequate processing time.
