E-3 Visa Family Medicine Physician Jobs
Family Medicine Physician roles qualify as E-3 visa specialty occupations because the position requires at minimum a Doctor of Medicine degree and board certification. Australian GPs and family medicine doctors can secure U.S. employer sponsorship without competing in an H-1B lottery, and the E-3 visa renews indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying position.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Family Medicine Physician
Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
U.S. employers require Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification before they'll initiate sponsorship. Get your ECFMG status confirmed early so credential gaps don't stall an offer that's already on the table.
Target residency-affiliated health systems first
Hospital systems with affiliated residency programs sponsor E-3 physicians more routinely than private practices. They have existing immigration counsel and established LCA filing workflows, which shortens the time from offer to approval.
Request the LCA before signing your employment contract
Your employer must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL before your visa appointment. Ask for LCA initiation as a condition of accepting the offer so paperwork doesn't lag behind your start date.
Clarify state medical license timing with your employer
Most U.S. states require a full medical license before you can practice, not just an E-3 visa approval. Confirm which state you're being hired in and start the licensing application in parallel with your sponsorship process.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Family medicine sponsorship involves a DOL-certified LCA, DS-160 preparation, and consulate documentation. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so nothing gets missed between your employer's HR team and your interview.
Bring Australian fellowship credentials translated for U.S. context
RACGP fellowship and Australian specialist qualifications don't map directly onto U.S. board certification titles. Have a credential evaluation completed by an NACES-approved service so consular officers and employers can assess your qualifications without ambiguity.
E-3 Visa Family Medicine Physician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Family Medicine Physician jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search. It surfaces Family Medicine Physician roles where employers have active E-3 or LCA filing history, so you're not cold-applying to practices that have never sponsored a visa. Filter by location and role type to find positions already matched to your E-3 eligibility.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Family Medicine Physicians?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens but has no annual lottery and no cap constraints that affect most applicants. H-1B requires surviving a random lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate and has an October 1 start date. For Australian family medicine doctors, the E-3 means you can accept an offer and schedule your consulate appointment on a timeline that fits the employer's hiring needs, not a federal lottery calendar.
Does my Australian GP or RACGP qualification count as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes. Family Medicine Physician roles require at minimum a Doctor of Medicine degree and meet the USCIS specialty occupation definition. However, your RACGP fellowship must be evaluated by a credential assessment service to confirm U.S. equivalency. ECFMG certification is also required before most U.S. employers will proceed with LCA filing on your behalf.
Can I switch Family Medicine Physician employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. if yours expires. There's no portability rule equivalent to H-1B's AC21 provision, so plan the transition carefully. Starting the new LCA before your current position ends avoids a gap in authorized employment status.
