E-3 Visa Gastroenterologist Jobs
Gastroenterologist roles qualify as E-3 visa specialty occupations, making Australian-trained GI physicians eligible for U.S. work visa sponsorship without entering a lottery. The E-3 renews indefinitely in two-year increments, so your sponsoring employer can keep filing for as long as you hold the role.

Verify your AHPBA credentials transfer cleanly
U.S. employers need your Australian medical qualifications assessed against ACGME fellowship standards. Get a credential evaluation completed before outreach so hiring managers can confirm specialty occupation status without delays.
Target academic medical centers and health systems
Large hospital networks and university-affiliated GI programs have in-house legal teams familiar with E-3 LCA filing. Smaller private practices may not have sponsored international physicians before, which adds friction to the offer stage.
Clarify state medical licensure timing with your employer
E-3 approval doesn't automatically grant you a state medical license. Confirm which state you'll practice in early, since licensure timelines vary from four weeks to six months and must align with your start date.
Negotiate LCA prevailing wage documentation upfront
DOL requires your employer to certify a prevailing wage for the specific GI role and geographic area before your visa can be filed. Ask HR to confirm the wage level determination before you sign an offer letter.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to coordinate paperwork
Gastroenterologist E-3 applications involve LCA certification, DS-160 completion, and consulate scheduling across multiple agencies. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so nothing falls through the gaps.
Prepare for consulate questions about your subspecialty scope
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires a specialist degree. Bring documentation linking your GI subspecialty training to the specific duties listed in your employment contract, not just a general physician credential.
E-3 Visa Gastroenterologist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Gastroenterologist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Gastroenterologist openings by employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. Most GI roles at academic medical centers and hospital networks qualify as specialty occupations, but surfacing employers already familiar with E-3 LCA filing saves significant time compared to cold outreach to practices that have never sponsored an Australian physician.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Gastroenterologist role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes. Gastroenterology requires a medical degree plus subspecialty fellowship training, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement that the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. USCIS consistently recognizes physician specialist roles as meeting this standard, and consular officers rarely challenge GI applications on specialty occupation grounds.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for an Australian gastroenterologist?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your employer can file at any time and expect a decision within weeks rather than waiting for an annual registration window. The H-1B visa cap is 85,000 per fiscal year with a randomized lottery, meaning you could go unselected for multiple years. For Australian-trained GI physicians, the E-3 is a substantially more reliable path.
Can I change GI employers after starting on an E-3?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. if you travel internationally. If you stay inside the country, you can begin work once the new LCA is certified and the employer has filed the visa paperwork, though you should confirm timing with your immigration contact before switching roles.
