Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Behavioral Health Counselor
Verify your credential equivalency before applying
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees in psychology or social work are generally accepted for E-3 visa specialty occupation purposes, but your employer may request a credential evaluation. Have a NACES-approved evaluator confirm equivalency before your first interview.
Check state licensure requirements early
Each U.S. state has its own licensure board for behavioral health counselors. Confirm which supervised hours and exams your target state requires before accepting an offer, since your E-3 approval depends on a qualifying job, not just a job title.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filings
Community mental health centers, hospital systems, and integrated care networks file LCAs regularly for behavioral health roles. Searching DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data by job title helps you identify which employers have sponsored similar positions before.
Request that your offer letter specifies degree requirements
Consular officers scrutinize whether a behavioral health counselor role genuinely requires a specific degree. An offer letter that explicitly states the minimum educational requirement and relevant field strengthens your E-3 application and reduces the risk of a 221(g) administrative hold.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
The LCA must be certified by the DOL before your consulate appointment, and the timeline is tight. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so nothing falls through the gap between your employer's HR team and the filing deadlines.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles through Migrate Mate
Most behavioral health counselor postings don't advertise E-3 sponsorship, but many qualifying employers will sponsor once approached. Use Migrate Mate to find roles matched specifically to E-3 eligibility so you're not filtering hundreds of listings manually.
E-3 Visa Behavioral Health Counselor: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Behavioral Health Counselor jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended starting point. Most job postings for behavioral health counselor roles don't explicitly advertise E-3 sponsorship, but many qualifying employers, including hospital systems, community mental health centers, and nonprofit care networks, will sponsor once they understand the E-3's low burden. Migrate Mate surfaces roles matched to E-3 eligibility so you're not searching blind.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Behavioral Health Counselor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as psychology, counseling, or social work. Roles that accept any degree or substitute extensive experience for education without a degree requirement can face scrutiny at the consulate. Your employer's offer letter should clearly state the minimum educational requirement and relevant field to satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Behavioral Health Counselors?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and a straightforward two-year renewable structure. H-1B visa applicants face an annual lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate for most registrants. For an Australian behavioral health counselor with a qualifying degree and a U.S. job offer, the E-3 is a faster and more predictable path than waiting for H-1B selection.
Do I need a U.S. state license before my employer can file an E-3 application?
Not necessarily before filing, but state licensure affects your ability to practice once you arrive. Some employers will sponsor your E-3 while you complete supervised hours toward full licensure, particularly in states that issue associate or provisional licenses. Confirm with your employer whether the role requires immediate full licensure or permits a supervised practice period, since this directly shapes your start timeline and visa documentation.
