E-3 Visa Anesthetist Jobs
Anesthetist roles in the U.S. qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3 visa, which means Australian-trained anesthetists can pursue sponsorship without entering an H-1B lottery. U.S. hospitals and surgical centers file a Labor Condition Application before your consulate appointment, and your two-year E-3 status is renewable indefinitely as long as you hold a qualifying position.

Verify your ANZCA credentials transfer cleanly
U.S. anesthesiology credentialing bodies evaluate ANZCA Fellowship as equivalent to American Board of Anesthesiology certification for most hospital privileging purposes, but you'll still need a state medical license before an employer can file your LCA with DOL.
Target academic medical centers first
Teaching hospitals and large health systems have established legal and HR infrastructure for E-3 visa sponsorship. They process LCAs routinely, understand the specialty occupation threshold for anesthetists, and are less likely to withdraw an offer over unfamiliarity with the visa.
Request the LCA before signing a start date
DOL must certify your employer's LCA before you can attend your consulate interview. Build at least two to three weeks of LCA processing time into your start date negotiation so the timeline doesn't create a gap between your offer and your appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Anesthesiology offer letters and employment contracts are complex documents. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA filing, visa application preparation, and consulate readiness so nothing in your documentation misrepresents your scope of practice or degree equivalency.
Clarify locum arrangements before filing
If your role involves coverage across multiple hospital sites or a locum tenens arrangement, your employer must list a primary worksite on the LCA. Misaligned worksites are a common reason USCIS issues a Request for Evidence on E-3 petitions for clinical roles.
Prepare your AHPRA history for the consular officer
Consular officers at Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth frequently ask for evidence of your Australian registration history alongside your U.S. offer letter. Print your AHPRA registration summary and bring a copy of your Fellowship certificate to your interview.
E-3 Visa Anesthetist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Anesthetist jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Anesthetist roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history. Most anesthesiology positions at large hospital networks and academic medical centers qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3, but you'll want to confirm each employer has sponsored Australian clinicians before or has legal counsel experienced with the visa category.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does my ANZCA Fellowship satisfy the E-3 specialty occupation requirement?
Yes. The E-3 requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a field directly related to the role. ANZCA Fellowship is recognized as a postgraduate medical qualification equivalent to or exceeding a U.S. bachelor's degree for specialty occupation purposes. You'll need to provide your medical degree, Fellowship certificate, and any AHPRA registration documents at your consulate interview.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Anesthetist roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals and has no annual lottery, which means you can apply any time your employer files a certified LCA. The H-1B is capped at 85,000 per year and subject to a lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate. For an Australian anesthetist, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on lottery selection and can be renewed indefinitely in two-year increments.
Can I switch employers on an E-3 while already working in the U.S.?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll typically need to attend a new consulate interview in Australia to get a new E-3 visa stamp, unless you're eligible for consular processing at a third-country post. Your E-3 status is tied to a specific employer, so you can't start working for the new hospital until their LCA is certified and your new visa is issued.
