Get your ECFMG certification before applying
U.S. employers can't file your LCA until you hold valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification. Confirm your Australian medical degree is verified through ECFMG before reaching out to any cardiology program or hospital system.
Target hospitals with J-1 waiver history
Academic medical centers and underserved-area hospitals regularly sponsor foreign physicians and already understand specialty occupation documentation for cardiologists. Their HR and legal teams won't need educating on E-3 visa requirements at the offer stage.
Distinguish your subspecialty in every application
Interventional, electrophysiology, and heart failure subspecialties face different demand levels across U.S. regions. Framing your Australian fellowship training around a specific subspecialty shortage makes the specialty occupation argument in your LCA filing significantly stronger.
Clarify state medical licensing timelines with your employer
E-3 approval doesn't require a state medical license, but you can't practice without one. Negotiate a start date that accounts for your state's licensure processing time so your visa status and work authorization align when you arrive.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and visa paperwork
Cardiology roles involve detailed specialty occupation evidence. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages your LCA submission to DOL, prepares your DS-160, and coordinates your consulate appointment so nothing delays your start date.
Request a written sponsorship commitment before resigning
Australian cardiologists sometimes accept verbal offers and resign from current positions before the LCA is certified. Get written confirmation of your employer's intent to sponsor before tendering any resignation or notifying your current hospital.
E-3 Visa Cardiologist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Cardiologist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find U.S. cardiology positions from employers with active E-3 and H-1B visa sponsorship history. Most sponsoring employers are academic medical centers, large hospital networks, and cardiac specialty groups. Filtering by sponsorship history saves time compared to cold-applying and asking HR whether they sponsor during the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Cardiologist role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Cardiology requires at minimum a medical degree followed by an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement for a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. USCIS and DOL consistently recognise physician roles as qualifying specialty occupations, and cardiologists face minimal pushback on this element compared to less degree-defined roles.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian cardiologists?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply any time once you have a job offer and a certified LCA. H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a one-in-three selection chance and an annual April filing window. For cardiologists, the E-3 is a direct path without the year-long wait that an unsuccessful H-1B lottery creates.
Can I switch cardiology employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally before the change is formalised. You can begin working for the new employer once the LCA is certified and you have a valid status, but you shouldn't resign from your current role until those steps are confirmed.
