E-3 Visa Pathologist Jobs
Pathologist roles in the U.S. qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3 visa, which means Australian citizens with a medical degree and relevant clinical or anatomical pathology credentials can secure sponsorship without competing in an H-1B lottery. The E-3 renews indefinitely in two-year increments, giving you long-term career stability in U.S. hospital systems, academic medical centers, and reference laboratories.

Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
U.S. employers hiring foreign-trained pathologists require Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification before sponsoring any work visa. Confirm your ECFMG status is current and that your Australian medical degree is on record with the commission before reaching out to recruiters.
Target academic medical centers and reference labs
Hospital systems affiliated with U.S. medical schools and large reference laboratories file LCAs regularly and have established processes for E-3 visa sponsorship. These employers understand specialty occupation documentation requirements and are less likely to stall on the LCA filing step.
Search for E-3 pathologist roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters pathologist openings by E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers already set up to sponsor Australian nationals. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer in hand.
Clarify subspecialty scope during offer negotiations
Your LCA must match the actual duties you'll perform. If you practice forensic, molecular, or hematopathology, confirm the employer's job description reflects your subspecialty, because a mismatch between the LCA job title and your role can trigger a DOL audit or USCIS request for evidence.
Ask employers to file the LCA before you resign
The DOL certifies the Labor Condition Application in around seven business days, but delays happen. Request that your new employer lodge the LCA before you give notice at your current position, so your consulate appointment timeline isn't compressed by a filing bottleneck.
Bring your AHPRA registration documentation to the consulate
Consular officers assessing E-3 applications for medical professionals want evidence of active registration. Your AHPRA certificate and a letter confirming your standing as a registered specialist in Australia directly support the specialty occupation requirement at the visa interview.
E-3 Visa Pathologist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find pathologist jobs in the U.S. with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists pathologist roles filtered specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship, so you can identify employers already prepared to sponsor Australian nationals without manually screening hundreds of postings. Search by subspecialty and location, and once you receive an offer, Migrate Mate's team can handle the LCA and consulate filing process end to end.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a pathologist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. Pathology requires a medical degree and residency training in a defined specialty, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. USCIS consistently recognizes pathologist positions as qualifying roles because a specific body of theoretical and practical knowledge, attained through a formal degree program, is directly tied to the job duties.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian pathologists?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply at any time of year once you have a job offer and a certified LCA. The H-1B is capped at 85,000 per year and selected by random draw, meaning a qualifying pathologist can be rejected simply due to lottery odds. For Australian citizens, the E-3 is the more reliable and faster path to U.S. employment.
Can I switch subspecialties or employers on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers or subspecialties, but each change requires a new LCA certified by the DOL and a new E-3 visa issued at a U.S. consulate. There is no portability mechanism equivalent to the H-1B's AC21 rule, so you should not leave your current employer until the new LCA is certified and your consulate appointment is scheduled.
