Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Nursing
Get your NCLEX and state license first
U.S. employers won't file an LCA for a candidate without a valid state RN license. Sit the NCLEX-RN before you start applying, then apply for licensure in the state where the role is located.
Target health systems with existing E-3 history
Large hospital networks and health systems that have hired international nurses before already understand the LCA process. Focus your applications on employers in states with high nurse demand like California, Texas, and New York.
Verify your BSN satisfies the specialty occupation requirement
The E-3 visa requires a degree in a field directly related to the role. Australian three-year BSN degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year BSN, but confirm this with your employer's HR team before the LCA is filed.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your paperwork
Once you have an offer, the LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the filing timeline doesn't delay your start date.
Clarify your employer's E-Verify enrollment status
Hospitals that participate in E-Verify can confirm your work authorization quickly after you arrive. Ask the recruiter directly whether the facility is enrolled, since some large health systems enroll by entity rather than across all sites.
Prepare for a specialty-specific consulate interview
Consular officers routinely ask nursing applicants to explain how their BSN directly qualifies them for the specific unit or department in the offer letter. Bring your degree transcript, NCLEX results, and a copy of your state RN license to the appointment.
E-3 Visa Nursing: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find nursing jobs in the U.S. with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists nursing roles from U.S. employers that sponsor the E-3 visa, so you can search by location, specialty, and role type without filtering through positions that don't support international candidates. Because the E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, employers can hire you at any time of year once an offer is in place.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a nursing role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Registered nurse positions that require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as a minimum qualification generally meet the E-3 specialty occupation standard. Roles like ICU, NICU, and surgical nursing typically qualify without issue. General aide or LPN positions that don't require a BSN do not qualify, so the job description in the offer letter matters.
Is the E-3 visa better than the H-1B for Australian nurses?
For Australian citizens, the E-3 is a substantially more practical path than the H-1B visa. There's no lottery, no cap on annual numbers, and your employer can file your Labor Condition Application at any point in the year. H-1B selection is randomized and limited to 85,000 slots annually, so most nurses who enter the lottery won't be selected.
Can I change nursing employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before or shortly after you start. There's no portability rule for the E-3 the way AC21 works for H-1B holders, so coordinate the timing carefully to avoid a gap in work authorization.
