E-3 Visa Family Physician Jobs
Family Physician roles qualify as E-3 specialty occupations, requiring a medical degree and active U.S. state licensure. Australian physicians can secure E-3 visa sponsorship without entering a lottery, with employer-filed Labor Condition Applications setting the prevailing wage. The visa renews indefinitely in two-year increments while you maintain your position.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Family Physician
Verify your ECFMG certification before applying
U.S. employers require Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification before they'll sponsor an E-3 visa for a physician role. Get this confirmed on your CV so hiring managers don't screen you out before the interview stage.
Target hospital systems with existing J-1 waiver programs
Hospital systems that already run Conrad 30 J-1 visa waiver programs have dedicated immigration infrastructure and routinely sponsor foreign physicians. They understand LCA filings and won't treat E-3 sponsorship as an unfamiliar administrative burden.
Secure state medical licensure before your visa interview
Consular officers in Sydney and Melbourne expect to see an active or conditional state medical license at your E-3 interview. Start the licensing application in your target state immediately after receiving a job offer, as state boards can take three to six months.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and consulate paperwork
Physician E-3 applications involve prevailing wage determinations specific to your SOC code and practice setting. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the DOL Labor Condition Application and all consulate preparation so nothing delays your start date.
Clarify your practice setting during offer negotiations
The LCA must reflect your actual worksite location and employer of record. If you'll rotate across multiple clinic sites or work through a staffing group, confirm the legal employer structure before the offer is signed to avoid LCA amendments later.
Confirm DEA registration eligibility with your prospective employer
Most family physician roles require a DEA registration number to prescribe controlled substances. Federal DEA eligibility depends on your state license and employment status, so ask your employer to confirm they'll support your DEA application as part of credentialing.
E-3 Visa Family Physician: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Family Physician jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards where sponsorship status is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history, so you can focus on Family Physician positions where sponsorship is already on the table.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Family Physician role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. Family Physician positions require at minimum a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. USCIS and DOL treat physician roles as established specialty occupations, so qualification is rarely contested as long as your credentials and state licensure are in order.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Australian physicians?
The E-3 is almost always the better path for Australian physicians. There is no annual lottery, no cap, and no April registration window to miss. You can apply at any Australian consulate year-round once you have a certified LCA and a job offer. The H-1B visa subjects you to a random selection process and a wait of up to a year before you can start work, while an approved E-3 can get you to the U.S. in weeks.
Can I change employers or practice settings without losing my E-3 status?
Yes, but your E-3 is tied to the specific employer named on your LCA and visa. Moving to a new employer or a materially different practice setting requires a fresh LCA certified by the DOL and a new E-3 visa stamp obtained at an Australian consulate. You can't simply transfer the existing visa. Plan for at least a few weeks of processing time when making any employer change.
