Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Respiratory Therapist
Verify your RRT credential transfers correctly
The NBRC RRT credential is the U.S. standard, and most state licensing boards require it before an employer can file your LCA. Confirm your Australian qualifications meet equivalency requirements before applying, so sponsorship isn't delayed at the credentialing stage.
Target hospital systems with open ICU and NICU units
Large health systems running ventilator-dependent ICU and NICU programs file E-3 LCAs regularly because RT shortages are acute in those units. Focus outreach on respiratory therapy department managers, not just HR, since they understand the specialty occupation standard.
Get your state RT license before the offer stage
Most U.S. states require a separate respiratory care practitioner license, and the DOL LCA certification needs the prevailing wage tied to a specific work location. Having your state license application underway signals to employers that you're genuinely ready to start.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
Once you have a verbal offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This removes the administrative burden from smaller hospital employers who haven't sponsored E-3 workers before and might otherwise hesitate.
Explain the E-3 process difference to unfamiliar employers
Many hospital HR departments assume all work visa sponsorship follows the H-1B lottery timeline. Clarifying that the E-3 has no cap, no lottery, and can be filed any time of year removes a common objection before it becomes a reason not to extend an offer.
Align your consulate appointment with your start date
E-3 consular processing in Australia typically runs two to four weeks from interview to passport return. Confirm your target start date with the employer before booking so your appointment timing reflects realistic notice, not just the earliest available slot.

Find Respiratory Therapist JobsRespiratory Therapist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Respiratory Therapist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for E-3 eligible roles in the U.S. Search Respiratory Therapist positions on Migrate Mate to find employers who are open to E-3 sponsorship. Filtering by role and location helps you identify health systems actively hiring in your specialty before you reach out.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does the Respiratory Therapist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Respiratory therapy requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in respiratory care and, in practice, the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist credential. That degree requirement in a specific field meets the DOL and USCIS specialty occupation standard, making RT roles straightforwardly eligible for E-3 sponsorship without the ambiguity that affects some other allied health titles.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Respiratory Therapists?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens but has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply any time of year and receive a decision based on your qualifications alone. The H-1B is open to all nationalities but is capped at 85,000 per year with a random lottery, meaning a qualified RT can be rejected through no fault of their own. For Australians, the E-3 is the more reliable path.
Can a smaller clinic or outpatient respiratory practice sponsor my E-3?
Yes, any U.S. employer can file an E-3 LCA regardless of size, as long as the role meets the specialty occupation definition and the offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for that location. Smaller practices often lack in-house immigration experience, but a flat-fee filing service can handle the process without requiring the employer to engage a full immigration law firm.
