Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Healthcare
Verify your credentials meet specialty occupation requirements
Australian three-year nursing and allied health degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but your employer's LCA must reflect a role that genuinely requires degree-level training. Document the degree-to-role connection clearly before applications begin.
Target hospital systems with active visa filing history
Large hospital networks and academic medical centers file E-3 visa and H-1B visa petitions regularly and have in-house HR processes for sponsorship. Community clinics and private practices rarely do, so filter your search to employers with established international hiring infrastructure.
Address state licensure before your visa interview
Most U.S. states require NCLEX passage and a state nursing license before you can work, but the E-3 interview happens in Australia. Confirm with your prospective employer whether they'll accept a conditional start while your license processes, and get that agreement in writing.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, and healthcare roles require wage levels that match the prevailing rate for your specific SOC code. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, reducing errors that delay certification.
Distinguish your E-3 status from H-1B when briefing employers
Many U.S. healthcare HR teams default to H-1B workflows and assume a lottery is involved. Clarify upfront that the E-3 requires no lottery registration, no premium processing gamble, and can be filed any time of year, which often accelerates hiring decisions.
Request an employer LCA before resigning your Australian role
DOL typically certifies healthcare LCAs within seven business days, but wage level disputes or incomplete job descriptions can extend that timeline. Don't hand in notice until you have a certified LCA in hand and a confirmed consulate appointment date.
E-3 Visa Healthcare: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Healthcare jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters Healthcare roles by employers with active E-3 and H-1B sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to organizations that have never navigated international hiring. Search by job title, state, and specialty to find positions where sponsorship is already part of the employer's hiring process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a healthcare role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It does if the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Registered nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical psychology, and health informatics roles typically qualify. General care aide or medical assistant positions that accept non-degree candidates usually do not. The job description must specify a degree requirement, not just preference, for the LCA to be approved.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian healthcare professionals?
The E-3 has no annual lottery, no cap shortage, and can be filed any month of the year. The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate for most applicants. For Australians, the E-3 is the practical default: same specialty occupation standard, same employer sponsorship requirement, but without the randomness that can delay a healthcare career by a year or more.
Can I start working in the U.S. before my state nursing license is approved?
No. The E-3 visa authorizes employment, but state licensure is a separate legal requirement enforced by the individual state nursing board. Some employers will extend a conditional offer and hold the position while your NCLEX results and license application process, but you cannot begin clinical work without the state license in place. Confirm the employer's policy on conditional start dates before signing an offer.
