Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Licensed Mental Health Professional
Verify your credentials meet state licensure requirements
U.S. states license mental health professionals independently, and many require a master's degree plus supervised clinical hours that don't always translate directly from Australian postgraduate training. Confirm your degree equivalency with the relevant state licensing board before targeting roles there.
Target employers with dedicated behavioral health divisions
Hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and large outpatient behavioral health networks file LCAs regularly for licensed clinicians. These employers understand specialty occupation requirements for mental health roles and are far less likely to ask you to self-sponsor.
Use Migrate Mate to find E-3 sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for clinical roles wastes time if employers haven't sponsored work visas before. Migrate Mate filters mental health positions to those with active E-3 sponsorship history, so your applications go to employers already set up to hire Australian professionals.
Clarify your scope of practice during screening calls
Employers sometimes confuse licensed counselors, clinical social workers, and psychologists when evaluating E-3 eligibility. Proactively explain which license you hold, what it permits under that state's law, and why your Australian degree satisfies the specialty occupation standard for the specific role.
Confirm the LCA wage level matches your clinical experience
DOL requires E-3 employers to pay at least the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. For licensed mental health professionals, wage level I versus level II can differ significantly, so check that your offer reflects your years of post-licensure clinical experience.
Start visa paperwork as soon as you receive a written offer
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment, which adds processing time after your offer is signed. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork immediately so you don't delay your start date.

Find Licensed Mental Health Professional JobsLicensed Mental Health Professional E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Licensed Mental Health Professional jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search for licensed mental health professional roles filtered by E-3 sponsorship history. Most standard job searches don't distinguish between employers willing to sponsor work visas and those that won't, so you can spend weeks applying to roles that go nowhere. Migrate Mate surfaces positions from employers already set up to hire Australian nationals on the E-3.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Licensed Mental Health Professional role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires at minimum a master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or a directly related clinical field. Roles that accept a general bachelor's degree or any field of study typically don't qualify. The more specific the degree requirement in the job description, the stronger the specialty occupation case at the consulate.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for licensed mental health professionals?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you're not gambling on a random selection. H-1B petitions for the same clinical role enter a pool where selection isn't guaranteed regardless of qualifications. For Australian mental health professionals, the E-3 is the more direct path: apply when you have an offer, not when the calendar allows.
Can I transfer my E-3 visa to a new mental health employer if my role changes?
Yes, but you need a new LCA and a new visa stamp for each employer. If you're already in the U.S. on E-3 status, your new employer must file a certified LCA before you start working for them. Changing from, say, an outpatient counseling role to an inpatient psychiatric setting may also require re-establishing specialty occupation if the degree requirements differ.
