Verify your qualification meets specialty occupation
Australian Certificate III or IV in Individual Support alone may not satisfy the E-3 visa specialty occupation requirement. A formal nursing or health science degree strengthens your case. Have your credentials assessed before you start applying.
Target healthcare systems with active LCA history
Search the DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify hospital networks and aged care operators that have filed E-3 LCAs for nursing roles. Employers with prior filings understand the process and move faster.
Address state licensing before your visa interview
Most U.S. states require a Certified Nursing Assistant credential before you can work. Confirm the state licensing pathway early, some employers won't sponsor until you show a clear path to certification, even provisionally.
Frame sponsorship as low-risk during employer conversations
Many healthcare employers avoid E-3 sponsorship because they confuse it with the H-1B lottery. Clarify that the E-3 has no cap, no lottery, and no filing fee for the employer beyond the LCA, which is filed with DOL at no cost.
Use Migrate Mate to handle your filing end-to-end
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. This avoids common errors in the prevailing wage determination and DS-160 that delay or complicate nursing aide applications.
Time your consulate appointment around your start date
E-3 visa interviews are booked through the U.S. consulate in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth. Processing typically takes two to four weeks after your interview. Align your offer letter start date to allow for this window before your employer needs you on-site.
E-3 Visa Nursing Aide: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Nursing Aide jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Most job listings don't advertise E-3 sponsorship directly, so you need to target employers with a history of sponsoring Australian workers. Migrate Mate surfaces roles and employers with active E-3 filing history, so you're not cold-applying to employers who've never sponsored before. Filtering by visa type upfront saves significant time.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Nursing Aide role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined and what credentials the employer requires. A basic aide position that accepts any certificate may not qualify. Roles requiring a diploma or degree in nursing, health science, or a related field are stronger candidates. Your employer's job description and the degree requirement are the two factors USCIS weighs most heavily.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Nursing Aide roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, has no lottery, and can be filed at any time of year. The H-1B has an annual cap of 85,000 slots and requires lottery selection in April, with a start date no earlier than October 1. For Australians in nursing aide roles, the E-3 is a significantly more predictable and faster path to U.S. employment.
Can my employer file the E-3 LCA without an immigration lawyer?
The LCA is filed by the employer through the DOL's FLAG system and doesn't legally require an attorney. However, errors in the prevailing wage determination or job classification can delay certification or trigger an audit. Many smaller healthcare employers haven't filed an LCA before, so having support through the process reduces risk for both sides.
