Verify your Australian credentials translate correctly
USCIS evaluates your Australian medical degree against U.S. equivalency standards. A three-year Australian bachelor's plus your fellowship training typically satisfies the specialty occupation degree requirement, but get a credential evaluation letter prepared before approaching employers.
Target academic medical centers for faster sponsorship
Large academic health systems and university hospitals have dedicated immigration teams that file LCAs regularly. They're familiar with the E-3 visa process, reducing the back-and-forth that slows offers at smaller cardiology practices unfamiliar with Australian visa categories.
Confirm board certification pathway before accepting an offer
U.S. interventional cardiology roles almost universally require ABIM board certification or an active path toward it. Clarify with the hiring department whether your Australian fellowship qualifies you for the ABIM exam before the offer stage, not after.
Request LCA filing as part of your offer negotiation
The employer must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before you can apply for your E-3 at the consulate. Ask HR to confirm LCA filing is included in your onboarding timeline so there's no gap between your start date and visa appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to coordinate your documents
Interventional cardiology applications involve complex credentialing documents alongside standard E-3 paperwork. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the LCA, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation end-to-end, reducing errors that can delay your appointment.
Plan your consulate appointment around hospital credentialing timelines
U.S. hospitals typically require 60 to 90 days for privileging and credentialing before you can perform procedures. Book your E-3 consulate appointment in Australia early enough that your visa approval aligns with, not after, your credentialing completion date.
E-3 Visa Interventional Cardiologist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Interventional Cardiologist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find Interventional Cardiologist positions at U.S. employers with E-3 sponsorship history. Academic medical centers and large integrated health systems are the most consistent sponsors for this role, as they have established immigration processes and high demand for subspecialty cardiology expertise.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Interventional Cardiologist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Interventional cardiology requires a specific body of theoretical and practical knowledge attained through a medical degree, residency, and subspecialty fellowship. USCIS consistently classifies physician roles at this level as specialty occupations, and your Australian medical qualifications and interventional cardiology fellowship satisfy the degree-field alignment requirement.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Interventional Cardiologists?
The E-3 has no annual lottery, so you're not competing for 85,000 slots each April the way H-1B visa applicants are. You can apply at any time of year, receive a two-year visa renewable indefinitely, and your employer avoids the uncertainty of H-1B selection. For Australian cardiologists, the E-3 is the faster, lower-risk path to U.S. employment.
Can I change hospitals while on an E-3 as an Interventional Cardiologist?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa tied to that position before you begin work. Unlike some visa categories, the E-3 doesn't allow for portability between employers. Build time into your transition to account for the LCA certification period, which currently runs around seven business days, and your consulate appointment.
