Verify your DPT meets specialty occupation
U.S. consular officers assess whether your role requires a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's. A three-year Australian bachelor's in physiotherapy satisfies the requirement, but bring your academic transcripts and registration with AHPRA to document it clearly.
Get your state PT license before interviewing
Most U.S. employers won't file an LCA until you hold a state physical therapy license or a temporary practice permit. Research reciprocity rules for your target state early, since NPTE eligibility and credential review timelines vary significantly across jurisdictions.
Target outpatient orthopedic clinics and health systems
Hospital networks and multi-location outpatient orthopedic groups have dedicated HR teams familiar with LCA filing. Smaller private practices often want to sponsor but lack the administrative infrastructure, so filtering for employers with existing E-3 visa or H-1B visa history saves negotiation time.
Use Migrate Mate to search verified sponsoring employers
Finding orthopedic PT roles where the employer already understands E-3 sponsorship is the biggest time-saver in your search. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with active E-3 visa filing history, then apply directly to roles already matched to your credentials.
Negotiate LCA filing into your offer letter
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa interview, so your offer letter should confirm the employer will file it promptly. Asking for a written sponsorship commitment before signing protects you if HR changes after you resign your current role.
Handle your LCA and consulate prep end-to-end
The E-3 process involves DOL certification, DS-160 completion, and consulate preparation across tight sequential steps. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the entire process from offer acceptance to your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth interview appointment.
E-3 Visa Orthopedic Physical Therapist: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find orthopedic physical therapist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. It filters employers by visa filing history so you can identify orthopedic PT openings at health systems and outpatient clinics that have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor, rather than cold-applying and asking HR to figure out the visa process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does orthopedic physical therapy qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Orthopedic physical therapy meets the specialty occupation standard because the role typically requires a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent degree in a specific field. Your Australian bachelor's degree in physiotherapy is generally accepted as equivalent, but you'll need transcripts and AHPRA registration documentation ready for the consular officer.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for orthopedic physical therapist roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens but has no lottery, no annual cap, and renews indefinitely in two-year increments. The H-1B requires winning a randomized lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate. For Australian orthopedic PTs, the E-3 offers a direct, predictable path to U.S. employment without the uncertainty of cap season.
Can I switch orthopedic PT employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but each new employer must file a new LCA with DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa stamp, typically at a U.S. consulate in Australia. There's no portability provision like some other visa categories, so time your transition carefully to avoid a gap in authorized employment status.
