Translate your Australian tax credentials clearly
U.S. hiring teams may not recognize CPA (Australia) or CA ANZ designations. Map your qualifications to U.S. equivalents upfront and note that your three-year Australian bachelor's degree satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation degree requirement.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for firms that have filed LCAs for tax management roles. Prior LCA activity signals the employer already understands the E-3 sponsorship process and won't stall at the paperwork stage.
Prioritize firms during Q1 and Q4 hiring cycles
Tax departments ramp up hiring ahead of filing season peaks. Approaching employers between October and January, when headcount decisions for the coming year are made, puts you in front of decision-makers when budget and urgency align.
Clarify the employer's LCA obligation before accepting an offer
Your employer files the LCA with DOL before your visa application proceeds. Confirm they understand this step and have counsel or a filing service lined up. Delays here push back your consulate appointment and your start date.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline your application
The LCA, DS-160, and consulate preparation involve tightly sequenced steps that stall when one document is wrong. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer acceptance to consulate appointment, reducing back-and-forth with your employer.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions tied to your seniority
Consular officers sometimes probe senior-level applicants on long-term intentions. Have a clear, honest account of your U.S. assignment scope and your ties to Australia. Manager-level roles attract more scrutiny than individual contributor positions.
E-3 Visa Tax Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Tax Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Tax Manager roles by employers with E-3 sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship willingness, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where the employer won't file. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have already sponsored E-3 or comparable visa categories, cutting that guesswork out of the search.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Tax Manager role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Tax Manager positions require a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, taxation, finance, or a closely related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. The DOL and consular officers look for a direct connection between your degree field and the role's core duties, so a tax-specific or accounting degree strengthens your case over a general business degree.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Tax Manager roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so an employer can sponsor you at any point in the year with no randomized selection risk. H-1B requires entering a lottery in March for an October start, and most applicants aren't selected. For an Australian Tax Manager with a qualifying offer, the E-3 is a direct path where the H-1B is a statistical gamble.
Can I transfer my E-3 to a new employer if I change Tax Manager roles?
Yes, but the process starts fresh with each employer. Your new employer files a new LCA with DOL, and you apply for a new E-3 visa stamp, typically at a U.S. consulate in Australia. You cannot transfer the existing visa to a new employer the way some other visa categories allow. Plan for a gap between roles or time your transition to align with your current visa's validity period.
