Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Assistant Controller
Get your CPA credentials evaluated early
U.S. employers hiring for Assistant Controller roles expect CPA equivalency or active CPA candidacy. Have your Australian CA or CPA qualification assessed by NASBA before applying so credential gaps don't stall an offer.
Target companies with active DOL LCA history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Certification Data Center for employers who have filed LCAs for finance and accounting titles. These companies have already navigated E-3 paperwork and are far less likely to decline sponsorship over process uncertainty.
Frame your role as a specialty occupation upfront
When applying, explicitly connect your accounting degree to the Assistant Controller duties in your resume and cover letter. USCIS requires a direct relationship between your field of study and the specific role, and ambiguity here causes RFEs.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and visa documents
Once you have an offer, the LCA and DS-160 filings must be sequenced correctly or your consulate appointment gets delayed. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment so nothing falls through the cracks.
Clarify employer LCA obligations before accepting
Your employer must file and certify the LCA with DOL before you can apply for your E-3 visa. Confirm this step is in your offer timeline, not an afterthought, so your start date isn't pushed back by a filing your employer hasn't started.
Time your visa application around your consulate's wait times
E-3 consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth fluctuates significantly. Book your appointment as soon as your LCA is certified so any backlog doesn't compress your start date or force a rushed document scramble.

Find Assistant Controller JobsAssistant Controller E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Assistant Controller jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship, including Assistant Controller positions. It filters for employers open to E-3 candidates, saving you from applying to roles where the hiring team has never heard of the visa and won't engage on sponsorship.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Assistant Controller role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, Assistant Controller roles require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. The role's core duties, managing financial close processes, overseeing reporting, and maintaining internal controls, are directly tied to that degree field, which is what USCIS looks for when assessing qualification.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for an Assistant Controller moving to the U.S.?
For Australian professionals, the E-3 is significantly more practical than the H-1B for an Assistant Controller role. The H-1B requires winning a lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and a March registration window, while the E-3 has a 10,500-per-year allocation that has never been fully used. You can apply for an E-3 as soon as you have a certified LCA and a job offer, with no lottery and no annual wait.
Can I change employers while on an E-3 visa as an Assistant Controller?
Yes, but your E-3 status is tied to your specific employer and role. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa at a consulate before starting work with them. There's no portability provision like some other visa types, so plan for a gap of several weeks between roles while the new application processes.
