Engineering Team Lead Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering team lead in Kansas?
Most engineering team lead roles in Kansas require a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline followed by several years of hands-on technical experience. For roles in civil or structural engineering, holding a Professional Engineer license issued by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions strengthens candidacy significantly. In aerospace and software sectors, employers typically value demonstrated project leadership and domain expertise over state licensure, with internal promotion from senior individual contributor roles being the most common path.
How much do engineering team leads make in Kansas?
Engineering team leads in Kansas earn a median of about $160,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $113,990 for the lowest 10% to over $235,170 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering team leads in Kansas?
Companies currently hiring engineering team leads in Kansas include Black & Veatch, Kiewit Corporation, and GAS GLOBAL SERVICES, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's aerospace and defense corridor, anchored in the Wichita area, means many of these openings sit within manufacturing and systems engineering environments.
Which Kansas cities have the most engineering team lead jobs?
Overland Park, Wichita, and Lenexa account for the largest share of engineering team lead openings in Kansas. Wichita's concentration of aerospace and defense manufacturers drives the bulk of demand, while Overland Park and the broader Kansas City metro attract openings in technology, consulting, and utility engineering, supported by major employers headquartered or with large campuses in the region.
Are there remote engineering team lead jobs in Kansas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because the role often requires direct oversight of lab, production, or on-site engineering teams. About 45% of engineering team lead openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the mix of industries in the state. Software and systems engineering leads tend to have the most flexibility, while roles in aerospace manufacturing and civil infrastructure are typically on-site.
How can I get hired as a engineering team lead in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to build technical depth first and pursue lead responsibilities through internal advancement. Large Kansas employers like Spirit AeroSystems and Garmin run rotational engineering programs and new-graduate development tracks that place early-career engineers on project teams where informal leadership opportunities arise. Moving from a senior engineer or project engineer role into a team lead position is the most common lateral step. Earning a Professional Engineer license through the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions or completing a project management credential adds measurable competitive weight to an application.
Where can I find and apply to engineering team lead jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to engineering team lead jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
