Engineering Team Lead Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering team lead in Texas?
The most direct path is to build several years of engineering experience in Texas's dominant industries, such as aerospace, energy technology, or semiconductor manufacturing, and then move into a lead role by consistently managing projects, mentoring junior engineers, and taking ownership of delivery. Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for engineering team leads, though engineers who sign off on public-works designs may need a Professional Engineer license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
How much do engineering team leads make in Texas?
Engineering team leads in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering team leads in Texas?
Employers hiring engineering team leads in Texas right now include Garver, Rosendin Electric, and Ardurra, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, semiconductor fabs, and energy-technology firms means demand for engineering leadership is spread across both large corporations and mid-size product companies headquartered in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most engineering team lead jobs?
Dallas, College Station, and Austin have the most engineering team lead openings in Texas. Houston's energy and aerospace sector drives a large share of demand, while Austin's dense software and semiconductor industry pulls heavily for software and embedded team leads, and the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor adds volume through its telecom, defense, and enterprise technology employers.
Are there remote engineering team lead jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are more limited than in purely analytical roles because engineering team leads are often expected to be present for lab work, production floor oversight, or in-person sprint ceremonies. About 15% of engineering team lead openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and the positions most likely to be fully remote are software and cloud infrastructure team leads rather than hardware, manufacturing, or systems engineering roles.
How can I get hired as a engineering team lead in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to first establish yourself as a strong individual contributor in a Texas engineering role, then volunteer to lead a project workstream or mentor a newer colleague within your current team. Large Texas employers such as Texas Instruments, Raytheon Technologies, and ExxonMobil run rotational engineering programs and internal promotion tracks that move high-performing engineers into lead responsibilities. Earning a Professional Engineer license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, or holding a relevant certification such as PMP, signals readiness for leadership and gives hiring managers a concrete reason to consider candidates with limited formal management history.
Where can I find and apply to engineering team lead jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to engineering team lead jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers across industries including defense, energy technology, semiconductor manufacturing, and enterprise software. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to each one.
