Environmental Jobs in Knoxville: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a environmental job in Knoxville?
Your strongest path into Knoxville's environmental market is through its federal and energy-adjacent sector, anchored by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Department of Energy's footprint in the region. Engineering and environmental consulting firms that support remediation and compliance work hire heavily here, as do local government agencies and utilities. Candidates with field sampling experience, report writing skills, or familiarity with NEPA processes stand out in this market.
Which companies hire environmentals in Knoxville?
Employers hiring environmentals in Knoxville right now include Tennessee State Government, aptim, and Pilot Flying J, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The hiring pool in Knoxville includes a strong mix of federal contractors, environmental consulting firms, and utilities tied to TVA and the region's energy infrastructure.
Are there remote environmental jobs in Knoxville?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the role, since fieldwork, site inspections, and sampling are inherently on-site. About 0% of environmental openings tied to Knoxville are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, covering positions where data analysis, report writing, and regulatory compliance work can be done off-site. Environmental scientists and compliance analysts in Knoxville are most likely to find hybrid arrangements.
How can I get a environmental job in Knoxville with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Knoxville is through field technician or environmental technician roles at consulting firms that support Oak Ridge cleanup projects and TVA compliance work. These positions prioritize hands-on reliability over credentials and often lead to full scientist roles. University of Tennessee graduates also find traction with local government agencies and smaller consulting firms that hire entry-level staff for air and water quality monitoring programs.
