How do you become a executive director of development in Hawaii?

There is no state-issued license specific to this role in Hawaii, but earning the Certified Fund Raising Executive credential through CFRE International significantly strengthens candidacy. Hawaii's tight-knit philanthropic community means building relationships with local foundations and nonprofits early in your career is essential to advancing.
How much do executive director of developments make in Hawaii?
Executive director of developments in Hawaii earn a median of about $63,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $45,940 for the lowest 10% to over $93,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire executive director of developments in Hawaii?
Employers hiring executive director of developments in Hawaii right now include Hilton Grand Vacations, Marriott Vacations Worldwide, and Hyatt Vacation Ownership, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's nonprofit and healthcare sectors, along with its university system and cultural institutions, are the most consistent sources of senior development leadership openings across the islands.
Which Hawaii cities have the most executive director of development jobs?
The cities with the most executive director of development openings in Hawaii are Honolulu, Lahaina, and Waikoloa. Honolulu dominates hiring because it is home to the largest concentration of nonprofit organizations, healthcare systems, and higher education institutions in the state, while Hilo and Maui County generate openings through regional hospital foundations, community nonprofits, and cultural organizations that rely on dedicated development leadership.
Are there remote executive director of development jobs in Hawaii?

The portions of the role most likely to be performed remotely include grant writing, donor research, and campaign planning, rather than frontline cultivation or event leadership.
How can I get hired as a executive director of development in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a development coordinator or development associate role at a Hawaii nonprofit or healthcare foundation, then building toward senior leadership over time. Institutions such as the University of Hawaii Foundation, Hawaii Community Foundation, and regional hospital foundations regularly hire entry-level development staff. Volunteering with Hawaii Community Foundation grant processes or completing an AFP Hawaii chapter mentorship program builds local credentials.
