Field Application Specialist Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field application specialist in California?
Most field application specialists in California enter the role after gaining bench or application experience in a relevant field such as molecular biology, analytical chemistry, clinical diagnostics, or semiconductor process engineering. California employers, particularly in the Bay Area and San Diego life sciences corridors, typically require a bachelor's degree in a related discipline and direct hands-on experience with the product category. No state-issued license governs the role, but certifications from instrument manufacturers or technical vendors strengthen a candidate's profile significantly.
Which companies hire field application specialists in California?
Employers hiring field application specialists in California right now include Siemens, Teradyne, and Molex, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's dense concentration of biotech, medtech, and semiconductor firms means hiring is ongoing year-round rather than seasonal.
Which California cities have the most field application specialist jobs?
San Jose, Fremont, and Santa Clara have the most field application specialist openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its deep biotech and semiconductor equipment ecosystem, San Diego draws heavily from its medtech and genomics clusters, and Los Angeles reflects demand from its large hospital networks and growing life sciences corridor in the South Bay and Torrance areas.
Are there remote field application specialist jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Field application specialists are defined by on-site customer work, including instrument installation, live demonstrations, and hands-on training, so full remote positions are uncommon by design. About 42% of field application specialist openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to involve application support or technical consulting work rather than hardware-dependent duties.
How can I get hired as a field application specialist in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a bench role in a California research or clinical lab where you already use the instruments a vendor sells. Large California employers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific, Bio-Rad Laboratories, and Agilent Technologies run associate field application specialist or technical support programs designed for candidates who have strong application knowledge but limited sales or field history. Building a portfolio of documented troubleshooting cases and completing manufacturer certification courses gives a candidate a concrete edge over others at the same experience level.
Where can I find and apply to field application specialist jobs in California?
You can find and apply to field application specialist jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and target territory, and apply directly through the listing.
