Business Intelligence Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence manager in California?
Business intelligence manager roles in California do not require a state-issued license, but employers consistently expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a quantitative field, plus several years of hands-on analytics experience. Many California hiring managers also value certifications from platform vendors such as Tableau, Microsoft, or Google Cloud. Advancing into management typically means first holding a senior analyst or lead analyst title at a California technology, healthcare, or financial services employer.
How much do business intelligence managers make in California?
Business intelligence managers in California earn a median of about $141,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,480 for the lowest 10% to over $224,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence managers in California?
Employers hiring business intelligence managers in California right now include Petco, Sutter Health, and Waymo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, large health systems, and financial institutions makes it one of the most consistent states for BI management openings year-round.
Which California cities have the most business intelligence manager jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Irvine have the most business intelligence manager openings in California. San Francisco leads because of its density of technology and fintech headquarters, Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment, media, and healthcare employers, and San Diego's strong biotech and defense sectors generate steady demand for BI leadership at mid-size and enterprise companies alike.
Are there remote business intelligence manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 49% of business intelligence manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and platform-driven nature of the work. Fully remote arrangements are most common for roles focused on dashboard development, data modeling, and self-service analytics, while positions that require close collaboration with executive stakeholders tend to favor hybrid schedules.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a business intelligence analyst or data analyst role first, then building toward management. Large California employers such as Kaiser Permanente, UC Health systems, and major Bay Area technology companies regularly hire for junior analyst and associate BI roles that do not require prior management experience. Building a portfolio of Tableau or Power BI dashboards using public datasets, earning a Google Data Analytics or Microsoft Power BI certification, and targeting rotational analyst programs at California technology or healthcare employers gives candidates a measurable edge when applying for that first BI management opportunity.
Where can I find and apply to business intelligence manager jobs in California?
