Business Intelligence Manager Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence manager in Illinois?
Business intelligence manager roles in Illinois do not require a state-issued license or registration. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business analytics, or a related field, followed by several years in analyst or senior analyst roles before stepping into management. Illinois employers, particularly in Chicago's financial services and healthcare sectors, place strong weight on hands-on BI tool experience and a demonstrated record of leading analytics projects or small teams.
How much do business intelligence managers make in Illinois?
Business intelligence managers in Illinois earn a median of about $106,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $68,810 for the lowest 10% to over $168,880 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence managers in Illinois?
Employers hiring business intelligence managers in Illinois right now include GEICO, AbbVie, and Rotary, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major hospital systems, and large retail and insurance companies means demand for these roles stays relatively consistent throughout the year.
Which Illinois cities have the most business intelligence manager jobs?
Chicago, Itasca, and Addison have the most business intelligence manager openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the majority of listings given its density of corporate headquarters in finance, insurance, and professional services, while Schaumburg and other suburban Cook and DuPage County locations attract demand from technology firms and healthcare organizations with large regional campuses.
Are there remote business intelligence manager jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business intelligence management is a desk-based, analytical role that translates well to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 78% of business intelligence manager openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly Illinois employers have adopted flexible work for data and analytics leadership. Roles focused on enterprise reporting and dashboard development tend to be the most remote-compatible.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence manager in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a business intelligence analyst or data analyst role first, then building toward management. Large Illinois employers in healthcare and financial services, including major hospital networks and insurance carriers headquartered in Chicago, regularly hire entry-level analysts and offer structured rotation or development programs. A portfolio demonstrating Power BI or Tableau projects, combined with experience in adjacent roles such as reporting analyst or data engineer, positions candidates for their first management opportunity.
