Implementation Consultant Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a implementation consultant in Illinois?
Becoming an implementation consultant in Illinois typically starts with a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or a related field. Illinois does not require a state-issued license for this role, so employers screen primarily on platform knowledge and project experience. Earning a vendor-specific certification from SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, or Microsoft strengthens candidacy significantly. Many Illinois employers, especially in Chicago's technology and healthcare IT sectors, also value candidates who have completed internships or co-op programs with enterprise software integrators.
How much do implementation consultants make in Illinois?
Implementation consultants in Illinois earn a median of about $104,270 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,610 for the lowest 10% to over $175,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire implementation consultants in Illinois?
Employers hiring implementation consultants in Illinois right now include OpenGov, Itron, and Intuit, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, healthcare systems, and financial services firms in and around Chicago creates consistent year-round demand for implementation talent across multiple platforms and industries.
Which Illinois cities have the most implementation consultant jobs?
Chicago, Illinois, and Springfield account for the largest share of implementation consultant openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the bulk of demand through its headquarters-dense Loop and River North tech corridor, while Naperville and Schaumburg attract openings from the large technology and consulting firms operating out of the Interstate 88 and Route 53 suburban office clusters.
Are there remote implementation consultant jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of implementation consultant openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves software configuration, documentation, and virtual training rather than on-site presence. The phases most commonly done remotely are discovery, configuration, and user training, while go-live support and hardware-dependent deployments are more likely to require on-site attendance.
How can I get hired as a implementation consultant in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate consultant role at a regional systems integrator or a large Illinois-based consulting firm that runs structured onboarding programs for recent graduates. Companies such as Accenture and Deloitte operate analyst and associate programs out of their Chicago offices that accept candidates without prior consulting experience. Lateral moves from business analyst, technical support, or customer success roles are common and well-recognized by Illinois hiring managers. Completing a platform-specific certification before applying, particularly in Salesforce or SAP, gives candidates without direct implementation experience a concrete credential to point to.
