Business Intelligence Manager Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence manager in Massachusetts?
Most business intelligence managers in Massachusetts enter the role through a progression from analyst or data engineer positions, typically holding a bachelor's degree in business analytics, computer science, statistics, or a related field. No state-issued license is required. Massachusetts employers in financial services and life sciences strongly favor candidates who have led analytics projects in regulated environments, and an MBA or a graduate certificate in data analytics from institutions like MIT or Northeastern can accelerate advancement into management.
How much do business intelligence managers make in Massachusetts?
Business intelligence managers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $131,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,030 for the lowest 10% to over $206,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence managers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring business intelligence managers in Massachusetts right now include Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Rippling, and Boston College, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of financial services firms, major health insurers, and global life sciences companies means demand for business intelligence managers remains active across multiple industries year-round.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most business intelligence manager jobs?
Boston, Waltham, and Newton have the most business intelligence manager openings in Massachusetts. Boston drives the majority of demand through its dense cluster of financial institutions, healthcare systems, and technology firms, while Cambridge and Waltham attract significant hiring from life sciences headquarters and enterprise software companies that maintain large analytics operations in the Route 128 corridor.
Are there remote business intelligence manager jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business intelligence manager work is largely desk-based and output-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 65% of business intelligence manager openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting broad adoption across the state's tech and financial sectors. Reporting design, data modeling, and dashboard development are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence manager in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a data analyst or reporting analyst role into a team lead position before pursuing a full manager title. Large Massachusetts employers like Fidelity Investments and Mass General Brigham regularly hire junior analysts and expose them to enterprise BI tools and cross-departmental projects. Building a portfolio of dashboard projects using Tableau or Power BI, earning a relevant certificate through a program at Northeastern or UMass Boston, and targeting analyst-to-lead opportunities at mid-size Boston-area technology or healthcare firms gives candidates without formal management experience a concrete competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to business intelligence manager jobs in Massachusetts?
