Senior Level Fundraising Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level fundraising director job?
Employers at this level want candidates who have owned a portfolio, not just supported one. Leading with demonstrated major gift results, experience managing a development team, and a history of building or expanding a donor base sets strong candidates apart. Boards and executive leadership teams also expect senior fundraising directors to contribute to institutional strategy, so showing that cross-functional credibility matters as much as fundraising metrics.
Which companies hire senior level fundraising directors?
Companies hiring senior level fundraising directors right now include GoFundMe, Gofundme, and Operation Warm, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from larger nonprofits, universities, healthcare systems, and foundations that have dedicated development departments and the infrastructure to support senior leadership.
Are there remote senior level fundraising director jobs?
Yes, though availability depends on the organization. About 33% of senior level fundraising director openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects the relationship-driven nature of the work. Many employers expect at least some in-person presence for major donor cultivation, board engagement, and team leadership, so fully remote roles exist but are less common than hybrid arrangements.
What makes a fundraising director role senior level?
Senior level fundraising director roles are defined by ownership of strategy rather than execution of tasks. That means setting campaign direction, managing a team of development officers or coordinators, stewarding a high-value major gifts portfolio, and reporting directly to a CEO, board, or chief development officer. Senior roles also carry responsibility for budget, goal-setting, and mentoring less experienced staff, not just meeting targets assigned by someone else.
Which industries hire the most senior level fundraising directors?
Senior Level fundraising director roles concentrate in Science & Research, Construction & Real Estate, and Non-Profit & Social Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors typically have established development infrastructure, active donor bases, and the funding cycles that require experienced leadership to manage complex, multi-year campaigns and major gift pipelines.
