INTRODUCTION
General farm labor which includes: corn detasseling, corn pollination, maintenance.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Worker will walk down the aisles between the plants in the corn fields, for the purpose of detasseling seed corn, remove rogue plants, weeds, and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields and hand weeding; weeds must be dug up below soil surface. The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to walk miles per day while pulling the tassel from each corn stalk, must be able to work long hours at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather, hot humid weather, rain and be exposed to pollen the whole day and be in possession of the requisite strength and durance, working quickly and skillfully with their hands.
Shuttle drivers will also transport workers on a weekly basis for essential errands, such as grocery shopping and check cashing. Shuttle drivers are included in this job classification because more than 80% of their duties are performed in the field and involve responsibilities beyond driving.
Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer’s products, and property. Workers performing grove clean-up work will be paid the adverse effect wage rate, the prevailing rate minimum wage rate, the agreed upon collective bargaining wage or the Federal or State minimum wage whichever is higher, except where a special procedure is approved for an occupation or specific class of agricultural employment. A copy of the work contract or a copy of the ETA 790 in lieu of a work contract, and any modifications, will be provided to the worker on the day the work commences. Workers must use safety precautions when operating farm equipment and vehicles. The employer will provide the necessary tools to perform the described job duties at no charge to the worker.
