Translate your credentials for PERM reviewers
DOL PERM auditors scrutinize whether your foreign degree and CPA or CFA designations map to the job requirements. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency before applying so employers can confidently list your qualifications in the labor certification filing.
Target employers with dedicated global mobility teams
Large financial institutions, Fortune 500 treasury departments, and multinational accounting firms routinely run PERM campaigns for Financial Managers. Companies with in-house immigration counsel move faster and rarely abandon cases mid-process, which matters given the multi-year timeline you're committing to.
Search green card sponsorship history using Migrate Mate
Filter Financial Manager roles by verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history using Migrate Mate. Seeing which employers have previously completed PERM for this job title helps you prioritize applications and avoid companies that have only sponsored temporary H-1B visa workers.
Clarify the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Financial Managers in your target city. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the DOL-determined level for the wage tier your employer selects, and mismatches discovered late can delay or derail the PERM filing.
Understand how your country affects the EB-3 backlog
Most nationalities face no significant EB-3 wait after PERM and I-140 approval, but workers born in India or China can face waits measured in years due to per-country caps. Confirm your priority date outlook with USCIS Visa Bulletin data before signing a multi-year retention agreement tied to sponsorship.
Ask employers to file I-140 concurrently with PERM approval
Once DOL certifies your PERM, push your employer to file the I-140 petition with USCIS promptly rather than queuing it. Your priority date locks in at I-140 filing, which is the date that determines your place in line for the final green card step, adjustment of status.
Green Card Financial Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Financial Manager role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Financial Manager positions typically qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree, such as an MBA or a bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience. EB-3 covers roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree. The employer's job description and your credentials together determine which category PERM is filed under, and some employers will file under whichever tier best fits your background.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Financial Manager?
Green card sponsorship through PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status requiring renewal. Unlike the H-1B, EB-3 sponsorship has no annual lottery and, for most nationalities, no meaningful backlog. The tradeoff is timeline: the full PERM-to-green-card process typically runs two to four years, compared to H-1B approval in months. Green card sponsorship also locks you to the sponsoring employer until your I-485 has been pending for 180 days.
How can I find Financial Manager jobs that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search Financial Manager roles filtered specifically by employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which companies are willing to run PERM. Focusing your applications on employers who have completed the process before reduces the risk of offers that fall apart when HR discovers the cost or timeline involved.
What does the PERM process look like for a Financial Manager position?
Your employer files a job order and runs a tightly regulated recruitment campaign to show DOL that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the Financial Manager role. If recruitment is clean, DOL certifies the PERM application, which typically takes six to eighteen months. From there, your employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS, and once approved, you can file I-485 to adjust status if your priority date is current.
Can my employer start PERM while I'm on H-1B status?
Yes, and many employers initiate PERM while you're actively working in H-1B status because the two processes run independently. Filing PERM does not affect your H-1B, and maintaining H-1B status while PERM and I-140 are pending gives you legal work authorization throughout the multi-year process. Once your I-140 is approved and 365 days have passed, you may also qualify for H-1B extensions beyond the standard six-year cap under AC21 portability rules.
