CPA Green Card Jobs
CPA roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when employers file PERM labor certification with the DOL, confirming no qualified U.S. worker is available. Most public accounting firms and corporate finance departments sponsor foreign CPAs, and your state CPA license strengthens your PERM petition by narrowing the qualified-worker pool.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in CPA
Get your CPA license before PERM
A state CPA license is a job requirement many employers list on PERM applications. If your license is pending, clear the exam and meet residency requirements first, employers can't file PERM citing credentials you don't yet hold.
Target firms with dedicated immigration programs
Public accounting firms that sponsor H-1B petitions routinely extend EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship to staff-level CPAs. Ask in interviews whether the firm has an in-house immigration counsel or retains outside immigration counsel, that signals an established green card pipeline.
Find green-card-sponsoring CPA employers on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter CPA roles by employers with active PERM and I-140 filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already run the process rather than pitching sponsorship cold to firms with no history.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay the DOL prevailing wage for your CPA role and location throughout the PERM process. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the Level II or Level III wage for Accountants and Auditors in your metro before you accept an offer.
Document your foreign accounting credentials for USCIS
If you completed a three-year accounting degree outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator confirming equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree. Submit this with your I-140 to avoid a Request for Evidence on education requirements.

Find CPA JobsCPA Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do CPA employers commonly sponsor green cards, or is it rare?
Green card sponsorship is common among mid-size and large public accounting firms, Big Four practices, and corporate finance departments that rely on foreign-trained CPAs. These employers regularly run PERM labor certification for staff accountants, senior associates, and audit managers. Smaller local firms sponsor less often because the legal cost and process timeline can strain limited HR resources.
How does the EB-3 green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for CPAs?
H-1B is a temporary, lottery-based work visa renewed in three-year increments. EB-3 leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no cap at the petition stage. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification and I-140 adjudication can take one to three years before you even reach adjustment of status, though you can stay employed under H-1B status while your green card processes.
What does PERM labor certification require for a CPA role?
Your employer must conduct a good-faith recruitment campaign, post the CPA position through DOL-mandated channels, and document that no qualified U.S. worker applied. The job description used in PERM must match your actual duties and minimum requirements. If your state CPA license is listed as a requirement, USCIS expects you to hold it before the I-140 is filed.
Where can I find CPA jobs that already sponsor green cards?
Use Migrate Mate to search CPA roles filtered by employers with verified PERM and I-140 sponsorship history. Targeting employers who have run the process before saves you from negotiating sponsorship from scratch and reduces the risk of an employer backing out mid-process due to unfamiliarity with PERM requirements.
Does my country of birth affect how long my CPA green card takes?
Yes. Priority date backlogs apply by country of birth, not citizenship. Nationals of India and China face multi-year waits even after an approved I-140 because EB-2 and EB-3 demand from those countries far exceeds annual visa supply. Nationals from most other countries see shorter waits. USCIS publishes a monthly Visa Bulletin tracking current priority date cutoffs by category and country.
