Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a General Ledger Accountant
Match your credentials to EB tier requirements
EB-3 covers a bachelor's in accounting or a related field; EB-2 requires a master's or equivalent combination of degree plus progressive experience. Clarify which tier your background supports before targeting employers, since PERM job descriptions are written around a specific education level.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Companies that have sponsored accountants before know the PERM recruitment process for finance roles. Search DOL PERM disclosure data by SOC code 13-2011 to identify employers who have filed for General Ledger Accountants, not just any sponsored workers.
Search green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters General Ledger Accountant openings by employers with documented green card sponsorship history, so you're not guessing whether a company will support the process before you apply.
Anticipate the prevailing wage in your target city
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your job location and experience level before filing the PERM. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level I through Level IV wages for SOC 13-2011 in the metro areas where you're applying.
Negotiate a start date that accommodates PERM recruitment
PERM requires the employer to run a mandatory recruitment period before filing, which adds several months before the I-140 can be submitted. Build that timeline into your offer negotiation so neither side is surprised when sponsorship extends well past your start date.
Prepare a credential evaluation before the I-140 stage
If your accounting degree is from outside the U.S., USCIS will require a credential evaluation demonstrating equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's or master's degree. Commission a NACES-member evaluation early so it's ready when your employer's attorney prepares the I-140 petition.

Find General Ledger Accountant JobsGeneral Ledger Accountant Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do General Ledger Accountant roles commonly qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply. EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, which matches most General Ledger Accountant job descriptions. EB-2 is available if the role requires a master's degree or if you hold a bachelor's plus at least five years of progressive experience that your employer documents as equivalent to an advanced degree.
How does the green card process for this role differ from H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B is a temporary status with annual lottery risk and a six-year cap for most holders. Green card sponsorship through PERM is permanent and has no lottery. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM plus I-140 plus adjustment of status typically takes two to four years for most countries, and significantly longer for Indian and Chinese nationals due to priority date backlogs at the EB-3 level.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a General Ledger Accountant employer?
The employer must advertise the position through DOL-specified channels, including print ads and job postings, over a set recruitment period, and certify that no qualified U.S. workers were available. The job description filed with PERM must match your actual duties and the minimum requirements must not be tailored to your individual resume. Once DOL certifies the PERM, your employer files the I-140 petition with USCIS.
How can I find General Ledger Accountant jobs where the employer is already open to green card sponsorship?
Most job postings don't advertise sponsorship willingness explicitly, which makes the search inefficient. Migrate Mate surfaces General Ledger Accountant roles from employers with verified green card sponsorship history, letting you focus applications on companies that have already navigated the PERM process for accounting positions rather than raising the question cold in interviews.
Does my accounting degree from outside the U.S. affect green card eligibility for this role?
A foreign degree doesn't disqualify you, but USCIS requires a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to the U.S. degree level specified in the PERM job description. For EB-3, that's typically a U.S. bachelor's; for EB-2, a master's or equivalent. Order the evaluation from a NACES-member organization early in the process, since it's required before the I-140 can be approved.
