Green Card Controller Jobs
Controller roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which permanently ties your residency to a U.S. employer rather than a temporary visa. Most Controller positions satisfy specialty occupation requirements under SOC 11-3031, and many mid-size and large companies with formal accounting departments actively sponsor.

Align your credentials with PERM requirements
PERM requires employers to document that your degree and experience match the posted job duties. A bachelor's in accounting plus CPA licensure strengthens your EB-2 profile and reduces the risk of a DOL audit challenging your qualifications.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Controller roles by employers who have previously filed PERM applications, so you're focusing your search on companies already familiar with the sponsorship process rather than those who may decline after an offer.
Prioritize companies with dedicated HR or legal teams
Controllers are hired at the organizational level where PERM sponsorship decisions get made. Mid-size companies with in-house HR and outside immigration counsel are more likely to commit to the full PERM-to-I-140 filing sequence without dropping the process mid-hire.
Verify the prevailing wage before negotiating salary
DOL sets a prevailing wage your employer must meet for your Controller role before PERM certification is approved. Check the OFLC Wage Search for the Level III or IV wage in your metro area so your negotiated offer clears that threshold from day one.
Understand how priority date affects your EB-3 timeline
EB-3 has no annual per-country cap concerns for most nationalities, but nationals from India and China face significant backlogs. Your priority date is set when PERM is filed, so starting that clock early with your employer matters more than most candidates realize.
Clarify sponsorship intent before accepting an offer
Ask specifically whether the employer will commit to filing both PERM and I-140, not just an H-1B visa transfer. Some companies sponsor temporary work visas but have no established process for employment-based green card filings, and learning this after you resign elsewhere is costly.
Green Card Controller: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Controller role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Controller positions typically qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on your credentials. EB-2 applies if the role requires an advanced degree or you hold a bachelor's plus substantial progressive experience. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree, which most Controller job descriptions meet. USCIS evaluates the specific duties and minimum requirements listed in your employer's PERM application, not just your title.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for a Controller?
H-1B is a temporary status capped at six years without further extensions, subject to an annual lottery. PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM itself takes six months to over a year, followed by I-140 adjudication, before you can file for adjustment of status. There is no annual renewal and no employer cap on how many PERM petitions a company can file.
What documents should I prepare before a Controller employer agrees to sponsor me?
Compile official transcripts, CPA or CMA licensure certificates, and a detailed employment history showing progressive responsibility in accounting and financial oversight. DOL requires employers to attest that no qualified U.S. workers were available, and your credentials must match the minimum requirements in the PERM filing exactly. Gaps between your actual background and the posted requirements can trigger a DOL audit.
Where can I find Controller jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search Controller roles filtered by employers with PERM and I-140 filing history, so you can focus on companies that have already committed to employment-based green card sponsorship rather than cold-applying and discovering the employer won't sponsor after an offer is extended.
Can my employer start PERM sponsorship while I'm on H-1B status as a Controller?
Yes. Employers commonly file PERM while you're working on H-1B, and USCIS allows H-1B extensions beyond the six-year limit once an I-140 has been approved for 365 days or a PERM application has been pending for 365 days. Starting the PERM process early, even in your second or third year on H-1B, gives you more flexibility if processing times run long.
