Carriers, brokerages, and financial services firms regularly sponsor licensed agents with specialized credentials or multilingual client books.

Verify your state license transfers cleanly
PERM requires your credentials to match the job description exactly. Confirm that your home-country insurance designations and any U.S. state licenses you hold align with the specialty the employer will list on the labor certification application.
Target carriers with dedicated HR immigration teams
Large regional carriers and national brokerages routinely run PERM filings for licensed agents serving commercial, life, or specialty lines. Firms with in-house counsel process sponsorship faster than those outsourcing immigration to outside counsel for the first time.
Search open PERM filings before you apply
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers with active green card sponsorship history for Insurance Agent roles, so you prioritize companies already familiar with the PERM recruitment audit requirements rather than educating a reluctant HR team from scratch.
Understand how prevailing wage shapes your offer
DOL sets the prevailing wage your employer must certify before PERM is approved. Check the OFLC Wage Search for the wage level tied to the specific SOC code and geographic area so you can evaluate whether an offer will pass DOL's mandatory wage test.
Negotiate the I-140 filing before your start date
Ask your employer to file the I-140 concurrently with the PERM approval rather than waiting. Locking in your priority date early matters most if you were born in a backlogged country, since that date determines your place in the green card queue.
Clarify who holds the E-Verify obligation
Insurance roles placed through managing general agents or third-party administrators can create confusion about which entity is the PERM petitioner. Confirm with the hiring firm whether the direct employer or a parent company will sponsor your green card, since USCIS requires the petitioning employer to have a bona fide job offer.
Green Card Insurance Agent: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Insurance Agent role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on the position. EB-3 covers skilled workers and professionals and is the more common path for licensed agents in personal or commercial lines. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree or when the employer can justify that a master's-level background is a normal and necessary requirement for the specific position.
How is the green card process different from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B visa is a temporary status requiring renewal every three years and is subject to an annual lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no renewal cycle. The trade-off is timeline: PERM plus I-140 plus adjustment of status typically runs two to four years for most countries, compared to H-1B approval in a few months. For Insurance Agent roles, many employers prefer the PERM route because it locks in long-term retention.
Which insurance employers commonly sponsor green cards for agents?
National carriers across life, health, property, and casualty lines, along with large independent brokerages serving commercial accounts, regularly file PERM applications for agents with specialized books of business, multilingual capabilities, or actuarial-adjacent credentials. Firms with dedicated compliance and HR teams are more likely to have an established sponsorship workflow than smaller regional agencies.
How can I find Insurance Agent jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you filter by employment-based green card sponsorship history so you can identify carriers and brokerages that have already filed PERM applications for Insurance Agent roles. Starting with employers who have a documented PERM track record reduces the time spent educating HR teams unfamiliar with the labor certification process.
What documentation do I need to support a PERM filing as an Insurance Agent?
Your employer handles the PERM filing, but you need to supply proof of credentials matching the job description. That typically includes your state insurance license, any relevant professional designations such as CLU or ChFC, educational transcripts, and employment verification letters. If the role requires a specific license tier or continuing education credits, document those separately since DOL audits often scrutinize credential alignment with the advertised requirements.
