Employers file on your behalf, leading to permanent residency rather than a temporary status. Finding employers with active sponsorship history is the first step.

Document your technical certifications before applying
PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications match the job requirements. Gather certifications like CompTIA A+, HVAC licenses, or manufacturer credentials now so your employer can reference them accurately when filing the PERM application.
Target repair employers with E-Verify enrollment
E-Verify enrollment signals an employer is already set up for federal employment eligibility compliance, which often correlates with willingness to sponsor green cards. Filter your search toward service companies, OEM repair centers, and facilities management firms that have hired internationally before.
Search for sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate lets you filter Repair Technician roles by employers with green card sponsorship history, saving you from cold-applying to companies that have never filed a PERM. Start there to build a shortlist of employers already familiar with the EB-3 process.
Verify the prevailing wage for your specific trade
Your offer must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and region before PERM can proceed. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your exact Repair Technician specialty so you can evaluate whether an offer clears the threshold.
Ask about I-140 concurrent filing during negotiations
Once your employer files the PERM application, you can discuss whether they'll file the I-140 petition immediately after certification. Concurrent or rapid I-140 filing establishes your priority date sooner, which matters significantly if your country of birth faces EB-3 backlog.
Clarify your O*NET job zone classification with your employer
PERM filings reference DOL occupation codes, and Repair Technician roles span multiple SOC codes depending on the equipment involved. Confirm with your employer that the O*NET code on your PERM matches your actual duties to avoid a recruitment audit or denial.
Green Card Repair Technician: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Repair Technician role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Repair Technician positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker roles, since they typically require vocational training, an associate degree, or equivalent hands-on experience rather than an advanced degree. EB-2 is possible if the role is redefined to require a bachelor's degree or higher and the employer can justify that requirement in the PERM application.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Repair Technician?
H-1B visa requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, which most Repair Technician positions do not meet. Green card sponsorship through EB-3 PERM has no annual lottery, no specialty occupation requirement, and leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status. The tradeoff is a longer timeline, often two to four years from PERM filing to a green card depending on your country of birth.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from your employer?
Your employer must conduct a DOL-supervised recruitment process to show no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position. This includes posting the job, reviewing applicants, and documenting the results. Only after PERM is certified can your employer file the I-140 immigrant petition on your behalf. The entire PERM stage typically takes six to eighteen months.
Where can I find Repair Technician employers that sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface employers with employment-based green card sponsorship history, including EB-3 PERM filings for skilled trade roles like Repair Technician. Searching there narrows your list to companies already familiar with the process rather than employers who have never sponsored a foreign worker.
Can I switch employers after my green card process has started?
Switching employers resets the PERM stage entirely because the application is tied to a specific employer and job offer. Once the I-140 is approved and your priority date is more than 180 days old, USCIS portability rules under AC21 may allow you to transfer the approved petition to a similar role with a new employer without losing your priority date.
