Green Card Precision Machinist Jobs
Precision Machinist roles qualify for EB-3 skilled worker sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, and strong candidates with advanced credentials may qualify at the EB-2 level. Employers file with DOL and USCIS to permanently sponsor you, making this a direct path to a U.S. green card rather than a temporary work status.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Precision Machinist
Document your machining credentials before applying
Gather trade certifications, apprenticeship completion records, and equipment-specific training documentation before approaching employers. PERM requires your employer to verify your qualifications meet the minimum requirements for the role, so gaps in your credential record can delay certification.
Target manufacturers with PERM filing history
Aerospace, automotive, and medical device manufacturers regularly file PERM for Precision Machinist roles. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data by SOC code 51-4041 to identify employers who have sponsored this occupation before rather than cold-approaching companies unfamiliar with the process.
Find green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with active green card sponsorship history, so you're not wasting applications on companies that have never filed PERM. Search specifically for Precision Machinist roles where EB-3 sponsorship is confirmed.
Verify the prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job zone and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search tool to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for SOC code 51-4041 in your target city before you negotiate, so you know the floor PERM requires.
Clarify sponsorship intent during the offer stage
Ask explicitly whether the employer will sponsor a full EB-3 green card, not just an H-2B visa or other temporary status. Some manufacturers confuse short-term skilled worker visas with permanent sponsorship. You want a written commitment to the PERM process before accepting an offer.
Understand priority dates if you're from a backlogged country
EB-3 for most countries outside India and China has no meaningful wait, but your priority date is set when PERM is filed, not when you accept the job. Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin monthly once your I-140 is approved to track when you can file for adjustment of status.
Green Card Precision Machinist: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Precision Machinist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Precision Machinist positions are sponsored under EB-3 as skilled worker roles, which require at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 is available if the position genuinely requires an advanced degree or if you qualify for a National Interest Waiver, which is rare for production-floor machining roles but possible for highly specialized CNC or aerospace applications.
How is PERM green card sponsorship different from an H-1B for this role?
Unlike the H-1B visa, PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status, and EB-3 skilled worker petitions are not subject to an annual lottery. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six months or more, followed by I-140 adjudication and adjustment of status. H-1B also rarely applies to Precision Machinist roles because the occupation typically does not meet the specialty occupation threshold.
What documents does a foreign Precision Machinist need for PERM?
Your employer drives the PERM filing, but you'll need to supply evidence of your qualifications: trade school transcripts, apprenticeship certificates, journeyman cards, and records of equipment-specific training such as CNC programming or CMM operation. DOL may audit the file, so documentation matching the job description requirements exactly is critical to avoiding delays or denial.
How can I find employers willing to sponsor a green card for this occupation?
Migrate Mate lets you search Precision Machinist job listings filtered by employers with confirmed green card sponsorship history, which saves significant time compared to screening listings manually. Focus your search on aerospace, medical device, and defense manufacturing sectors, where PERM filings for skilled machinist roles are most common and employers often have established immigration processes.
Can my employer start the green card process while I'm working on an H-2B or other temporary visa?
Yes, your employer can file PERM while you hold a valid temporary work status, but you cannot file for adjustment of status inside the U.S. on most H-2B entries. Many machinists in this situation pursue consular processing once their priority date becomes current, meaning you'd apply for your immigrant visa at a U.S. consulate abroad rather than adjusting status domestically.
