About Base
Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
About the Role
Base Energy is our retail electricity business that saves customers and businesses on their power bills, and a major growth engine as we expand across deregulated markets. We’re hiring a Lead to own this business line end-to-end: the growth strategy that scales it, the pricing that makes it competitive and profitable, and the commercial strategy.
You’ll work with finance and markets to own pricing, own the acquisition strategy and channel mix that hits enrollment targets, position the plan against incumbent retail providers, and manage risk.
This role is built for a commercial operator who wants ownership: pricing authority, a clear P&L to move, and the freedom to build the playbook for how Base sells energy in every market we enter.
- Own Base Energy’s growth: carry the enrollment and acquisition targets for the line, and own the channel mix, GTM strategy, and product strategy that hits them.
- Set pricing: build and maintain the rate card in partnership with markets, supply, and finance, balancing competitiveness, margin, and risk.
- Run commercial strategy: own the unit economics, model pricing and contribution scenarios, and decide where to push, hold, or pull back.
- Position the product: sharpen how Base Energy stands out against incumbent retail electricity providers across rates, transparency, and brand.
- Build the expansion playbook: stand up Base Energy’s commercial and GTM motion in each new market we enter.
Basic Qualifications
- 4+ years in a commercial, growth, or business-line role with direct ownership of a number—pricing, P&L, or acquisition targets—ideally in retail electricity, energy, or another consumer business with real unit economics.
- Strong commercial and pricing instincts. You’re comfortable setting pricing taking into account cost-to-serve, margin, and sensitivity, not just top-line growth.
- Comfort with risk. You can hold commodity, credit, and regulatory exposure in your head and make confident calls with imperfect information.
- Data fluency. You can pull and model your own data (we run on BigQuery and HubSpot) to drive pricing, targeting, and segmentation decisions.
About the Team
The Growth team at Base is lean, high-ownership, and results-driven. We operate with clear accountability, tight feedback loops, and a strong bias towards action. Marketing works closely with design, sales, and product to build scalable systems that support the rapid buildout of America’s next-generation power company.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
Our Values
- First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
- Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
- Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
- Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
- Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
- Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
- Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
Do the best work of your life at Base.
