Map your credentials to SOC codes
Senior Cloud Platform Engineer roles typically map to SOC 15-1299 or 15-1252. Pull the O*NET profile for your target code before interviews so you can articulate why your degree and cloud architecture experience satisfy specialty occupation requirements.
Verify prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level III and Level IV wages for your target SOC code and work location. Employers must certify at least the prevailing wage on the LCA, so knowing the floor protects you from offers that can't clear DOL certification.
Search H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate
Filter by cloud engineering roles to identify employers with active LCA certifications for your target SOC code. This surfaces companies that have already cleared DOL prevailing-wage requirements, cutting your list to sponsors with a demonstrated H-1B filing track record.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
If you're on STEM OPT, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled on your start date or your extension is void. Ask the recruiter to confirm enrollment status in writing before signing, not after, since re-enrollment can't be backdated.
Request premium processing into your offer terms
USCIS offers 15-business-day adjudication for I-129 petitions under premium processing. Cloud platform roles often involve security clearance timelines or onboarding freezes, so negotiating employer-paid premium processing eliminates the uncertainty of standard multi-month adjudication.

Find Senior Cloud Platform Engineer JobsSenior Cloud Platform Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS defines specialty occupation as a role requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Senior Cloud Platform Engineer positions routinely require degrees in computer science, information systems, or electrical engineering, and the O*NET profile for the corresponding SOC code confirms the theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge. Most petitions in this category are approved without a Request for Evidence when the job description tightly matches the degree requirement.
How do I find Senior Cloud Platform Engineer employers who actively sponsor H-1B visas?
Migrate Mate surfaces employers based on DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, filtered by occupation code. This shows you which companies have certified LCAs for cloud engineering roles, meaning they've already completed DOL prevailing-wage requirements. Sorting by recency and filing volume helps you distinguish companies with a consistent sponsorship pattern from those that filed once years ago.
Can I switch to a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer role at a new employer while on H-1B?
Yes, under H-1B portability you can start working for a new employer once they file a non-frivolous I-129 petition, as long as your current H-1B was approved and you've maintained valid status. Your new employer must file a new LCA certified for the specific work location and SOC code. The 60-day grace period after leaving your previous employer gives you a window to line up the new filing before status lapses.
What happens to my H-1B if my employer's cloud platform team is restructured or my role is eliminated?
Your H-1B status is tied to the specific employer and job described in the approved petition. If your role is eliminated, you enter a 60-day grace period to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart. A new employer must file a cap-exempt transfer petition before that window closes. Starting that process immediately after notice, not at day 59, is what determines whether portability applies.
Does the prevailing wage for Senior Cloud Platform Engineer roles vary by work location?
Yes, significantly. DOL sets prevailing wages at the metropolitan statistical area level, so the certified wage for the same SOC code in San Francisco differs from the wage in Austin or Raleigh. Your employer's LCA must certify the wage for every location where you'll work more than 30 days in a year, including remote work locations. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level III and Level IV figures for each city in your target search.
