H-1B Visa Mobile Developer Jobs
Mobile Developer roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Employers file the LCA with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery registration window matters.

Align your degree to your stack
USCIS scrutinizes whether your specific degree field supports the role. A computer science or software engineering degree maps cleanly to mobile development. If your degree is in an adjacent field, document coursework in iOS, Android, or cross-platform frameworks explicitly in your petition.
Check LCA filings by mobile job title
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up prevailing wages for titles like Mobile Application Developer or Software Developer II by metro area. Your offered salary must meet the DOL wage level, and knowing the floor before negotiations prevents offer rescissions during filing.
Target employers with cap-exempt hiring pathways
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government entities are cap-exempt, meaning they can file H-1B petitions year-round without lottery exposure. Mobile developer roles in edtech platforms, university IT departments, or federally funded research labs often fall under this category.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Filter Mobile Developer roles by employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history on Migrate Mate. This surfaces companies that have actively sponsored the role, not just those willing to in principle, cutting time spent on applications to employers who stall at the offer stage.
Clarify specialty occupation in your offer letter
USCIS has issued RFEs on mobile developer petitions where job duties listed generic software tasks. Ask your employer to specify the platforms (Swift, Kotlin, React Native), architectural responsibilities, and degree requirement in the offer letter before the I-129 is filed.
Register before the April lottery deadline
USCIS opens H-1B electronic registration in March each year, with a roughly two-week window. Your employer must register you before the deadline or wait until the following fiscal year. Confirm your employer's immigration counsel timeline in January so nothing slips.

Find Mobile Developer JobsMobile Developer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Mobile Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes. USCIS generally accepts mobile developer roles as specialty occupations when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. O*NET classifies mobile developers under software developers, which carries a job zone four designation. Petitions get stronger when the offer letter ties specific duties to that degree requirement rather than listing generic programming tasks.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring H-1B visas for mobile developers?
Search Mobile Developer roles on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history through DOL. This lets you target companies that have already sponsored the role rather than relying on employer claims during interviews. Prioritizing employers with a consistent filing record reduces the risk of an offer falling through at the petition stage.
What happens to my H-1B status if I switch from iOS to Android development at the same employer?
A significant change in job duties, title, or worksite location can constitute a material change requiring an amended I-129 petition. Shifting between mobile platforms at the same employer may or may not trigger this depending on how different the duties are. You should ask your employer's immigration counsel to evaluate whether an amendment is needed before the role change takes effect.
Can I work on a contract or project basis as an H-1B mobile developer?
H-1B status requires an employer-employee relationship where the sponsoring employer maintains control over your work. Third-party placements, where a staffing firm sponsors you but you work at a client site, are permitted but face heightened USCIS scrutiny. The petitioner must demonstrate ongoing supervision and the right to hire or terminate, which some staffing arrangements struggle to document adequately.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for mobile developer H-1B petitions?
Before filing an H-1B petition, your employer must certify an LCA with DOL confirming your offered wage meets or exceeds the prevailing wage for your specific job title and work location. You can look up applicable wage levels using the OFLC Wage Search by SOC code and metro area. The wage level assigned, from Level I through Level IV, reflects experience and complexity, and directly affects what salary USCIS considers compliant.
