Verify your degree matches the role
H-1B approval for Database Developer roles hinges on your degree field directly relating to database work. A computer science or information systems degree clears this easily, but a business degree often triggers an RFE. Check O*NET for the accepted education fields USCIS references during adjudication.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Pull DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to find employers who have filed for Database Developer roles specifically, not just software roles broadly. Employers with recent LCA history have an established H-1B process and are far less likely to back out after an offer.
Search H-1B roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Database Developer jobs by verified H-1B sponsorship history, so every listing reflects an employer who has filed for this role before. Use it to skip outreach to companies whose LCA filings don't include database-specific positions.
Clarify the SOC code before your offer
Ask your recruiter which SOC code the employer plans to use on your LCA before you accept. Database Developers can be filed under 15-1245 or adjacent codes, and the code affects the prevailing wage level. Run the code against the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the wage tier matches your offer.
Flag STEM-adjacent skills during H-1B cap season
If you hold a U.S. master's degree in a STEM field, you're eligible for the advanced-degree exemption pool during the annual lottery in March, giving you two selection chances. Confirm your degree qualifies by checking USCIS guidance on the advanced-degree cap before your employer files your registration.
Negotiate premium processing into your offer
Standard H-1B processing can run three to six months after the October 1 start date. Ask the employer to include USCIS premium processing in the offer terms so your I-129 adjudicates within 15 business days and you can start without a long wait.

Find Database Developer JobsDatabase Developer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Database Developer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Database Developer positions fall under SOC code 15-1245 and require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field. USCIS treats this as a specialty occupation because the theoretical and practical application of that specific degree is a standard entry requirement for the role across the industry.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Database Developer roles?
Healthcare systems, financial institutions, government contractors, and large technology companies are consistent H-1B sponsors for Database Developers. The most reliable way to identify them is through DOL LCA disclosure data, which shows which employers have filed for this specific role. Migrate Mate surfaces that data directly so you can browse verified sponsoring employers without digging through raw government files.
What happens to my H-1B status if my Database Developer role changes significantly after I'm approved?
A material change to your job duties, work location, or SOC code requires your employer to file an amended H-1B petition before the change takes effect. Moving from a pure database development role to a data architecture or engineering management position often triggers this requirement. Failing to file an amendment while working in a materially different role puts your status at risk.
Can I work as a Database Developer for multiple employers on a single H-1B?
Not without a separate approved petition. Each H-1B is employer-specific. If you want to work concurrently for two companies, the second employer must file and receive approval for their own H-1B petition before you begin work for them. Consulting arrangements or part-time contract roles both require this, even if the work is project-based.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect Database Developer job offers?
Your employer must pay you at least the DOL prevailing wage for the Database Developer role at the specific work location listed on the LCA. Wage levels run from Level I through Level IV based on experience and complexity. You can look up the applicable wage floor using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer, which tells you the minimum the employer is legally required to pay.
