DESCRIPTION
Do you have a passion for working in a role where your expertise in BIM, HVAC, plumbing design, and next-generation data center innovation converge into a single leadership opportunity? Have you ever envisioned shaping the future of BIM at a scale that spans the globe and redefines how data centers are designed and built? If these questions resonate with you, we invite you to explore this opportunity further.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a BIM Engineering Manager to lead the Americas Mechanical BIM design group, part of a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. In this role, you will manage a team of BIM designers influencing all aspects of mechanical BIM design, coordination, and documentation — including HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems — across the Americas. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document the mechanical features our facilities require, coordinating system space requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations across all mechanical-related trades. You will review all models and drawings to ensure they meet applicable regional code requirements described in our design standards, and contribute your expertise to the continual improvement of our BIM quality and standard operating procedures.
As the team's subject matter expert, you will serve as the point of escalation for the team on technical BIM systems for mechanical, plumbing and fire protection. You will ensure that the team has the information and tools they need to design our data centers the way we expect them to, and that our operations teams are well equipped to operate and maintain them as needed to meet our goals. As part of this role, you will work with internal and external stakeholders — including design, construction, operations, vendors, and other service providers.
As part of the broader management team, you will work with organizational leadership to implement strategy by contributing to our Innovation and Strategic Roadmap, defining team goals, and executing the tactics that drive results. You will be responsible for staffing, schedule and budget management, model and drawing approvals, and developing repeatable BIM workflows. You will be part of a global team, and you will be an integral part of our work to change the world through technology — empowering your designers to do their best work and raising the bar on how we deliver mechanical BIM design at AWS.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Engineering Manager
Translate your engineering credentials early
Chilean engineering titles require a USCIS-recognized equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree in engineering or a directly related field. Get a credential evaluation completed before you start applying so sponsors aren't stalled at the offer stage.
Pull your prevailing wage before negotiating
Your offer must meet the DOL prevailing wage for Engineering Manager in your target metro. Look up the current wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions, so you negotiate from the correct floor, not below it.
Search H-1B1 Chile filers on Migrate Mate
Find Engineering Manager roles at companies with documented H-1B1 Chile sponsorship history using Migrate Mate. Targeting employers who've filed before cuts the time spent educating HR about a visa most U.S. companies haven't processed.
Distinguish H-1B1 Chile from standard H-1B when briefing recruiters
Most U.S. engineering hiring managers default to H-1B when you mention sponsorship. Clarify upfront that H-1B1 Chile has no lottery and no USCIS petition filing, which reduces employer cost and timeline anxiety at the offer stage.
Verify your employer is E-Verify enrolled before accepting
H-1B1 Chile employers must be E-Verify participants. Confirm enrollment before you sign. If a company isn't enrolled, they need to register with E-Verify before filing your Labor Condition Application with DOL, adding lead time to your start date.
Frame your LCA filing window into your start date
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your consulate appointment. DOL certification typically takes seven business days. Build that window into your offer negotiation so your target start date accounts for LCA processing and consulate scheduling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Engineering Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1 Chile?
Yes. Engineering Manager is classified under O*NET as requiring at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical field. That direct degree-to-role relationship satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. Generalist management experience alone won't qualify; the role must be grounded in a specific engineering discipline.
How does H-1B1 Chile differ from H-1B for Engineering Manager positions?
The H-1B requires a lottery selection that admitted roughly one in four registrants in recent fiscal years. H-1B1 Chile has no lottery, a separate 1,400-visa annual cap that has never been exhausted, and processes through consular interview rather than a USCIS petition. For Chilean engineering professionals, that means a predictable timeline without a random selection event blocking the path entirely.
How can I find Engineering Manager jobs with H-1B1 Chile visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified H-1B1 Chile filing history in engineering and technology sectors. Targeting companies that have sponsored the visa before reduces friction at the offer stage, since their legal and HR teams already understand the Labor Condition Application process and consulate-based filing requirements specific to Chilean nationals.
What documents should I have ready before a U.S. employer agrees to sponsor my H-1B1 Chile visa?
Prepare a credential evaluation confirming your Chilean engineering degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree, your current resume with role-specific technical scope clearly documented, and any professional certifications relevant to your engineering discipline. Employers will also need your passport details and intended start date to complete the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your consulate appointment.
Can I switch Engineering Manager roles while on H-1B1 Chile status?
Yes, but each new employer must file a new Labor Condition Application with DOL and you must obtain a new H-1B1 Chile visa stamp before beginning work with the new company. Unlike H-1B, there is no portability provision that lets you start working upon filing. Plan your transition timeline around the LCA certification period and consulate appointment availability.
