Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Manufacturing Jobs
Verify your degree matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a direct connection between your field of study and the manufacturing position. A mechanical engineering degree supports a process engineer role; a general business degree won't support a CNC manufacturing manager position without additional qualifications on record.
Search DOL LCA filings for manufacturing sponsors
Employers must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before sponsoring any H-1B1. Use the OFLC Wage Search to find companies that have certified LCAs for manufacturing roles, giving you a verified list of active sponsors rather than guessing.
Check your role's O*NET job zone classification
Manufacturing titles span a wide skill range. Pull your target role's O*NET profile to confirm it sits in Job Zone 4 or 5, which signals the specialty occupation threshold. Bring this documentation to your offer negotiation to preempt employer hesitation.
Find verified H-1B1 manufacturing employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with confirmed H-1B visa1 and H-1B LCA filing history in manufacturing, filtered by role and location. Target companies already familiar with work visa filing to cut down the time between offer and consulate application.
Negotiate who covers the LCA filing costs
Unlike H-1B, H-1B1 processing happens at the consulate, so there's no I-129 petition fee for the employer. Still, clarify in writing whether your offer includes the DS-160 MRV fee and any attorney costs before you accept, since practices vary across manufacturers.
Prepare SAEA documentation before your consulate appointment
The H-1B1 Singapore visa is issued under the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, and consular officers verify your Singaporean citizenship directly. Bring your Singapore passport, the certified LCA, and a detailed offer letter specifying your manufacturing role title and duties.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do manufacturing roles qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B1?
Many manufacturing positions qualify, but the title alone doesn't determine eligibility. Roles like industrial engineer, manufacturing engineer, quality systems manager, and process engineer typically meet the specialty occupation standard because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related technical field. General production supervisor or line operator roles usually don't qualify because they don't require a specific degree field.
How does H-1B1 compare to H-1B for Singaporean manufacturing professionals?
H-1B1 is strictly better for Singaporeans targeting manufacturing roles right now. There's no lottery, the 5,400-visa annual cap has never been fully used, and your employer applies at the consulate rather than filing a USCIS petition. The trade-off is that H-1B1 doesn't allow dual intent, so you can't simultaneously pursue a green card while on this status.
Where can I find manufacturing employers that sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas?
Migrate Mate is the most direct option for Singaporean professionals. The platform filters job listings by employers with verified H-1B1 and H-1B LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already demonstrated willingness and experience with work visa sponsorship in manufacturing roles, rather than cold-applying and discovering an employer won't sponsor after multiple interviews.
What documents does my employer need to prepare before my consulate appointment?
Your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before you can apply for the visa. That LCA certifies the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your manufacturing role in your work location. You'll also need a detailed offer letter specifying your job title, duties, salary, and start date. Your employer's attorney or HR team typically coordinates both.
Can I switch manufacturing employers after arriving in the U.S. on an H-1B1?
Yes, but you can't port to a new employer the way H-1B holders can under AC21 portability rules. H-1B1 is employer-specific and non-petition-based, so changing employers requires your new employer to obtain a fresh certified LCA and you to apply for a new H-1B1 at the consulate or adjust status. Plan your timeline accordingly if you're weighing a job change.
