Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Agriculture Jobs
Document your agricultural work history early
Gather employment records, pay stubs, or reference letters from past farm employers before applying. H-2A visa petitions require proof the job is temporary, and your documented experience helps employers justify the hire to DOL.
Search verified H-2A agriculture employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter agriculture roles by employers with active H-2A filing history. This cuts out listings from farms that advertise seasonal work but haven't filed a petition with DOL.
Target crops with predictable seasonal cycles
Farms growing tobacco, apples, citrus, or Christmas trees operate on fixed harvest windows, making them more likely to file H-2A petitions on a repeating annual basis. Recurring filers typically have established housing and onboarding processes.
Confirm housing terms before accepting an offer
H-2A employers must provide free, DOL-approved housing for workers who can't reasonably commute. Ask for the housing address and inspection certification upfront. Substandard or unapproved housing is an employer violation, not your obligation to resolve.
Understand how the three-quarters guarantee protects you
DOL requires H-2A employers to offer at least 75 percent of the contracted work hours. If the farm schedules you fewer hours than promised, you're still owed wages for those unworked hours under the job order terms.
Check if your consulate requires an in-person visa interview
Most H-2A applicants must attend a consular interview after USCIS approves the employer's petition. Processing timelines vary by consulate and season, so confirm your appointment availability as soon as the employer notifies you the petition was approved.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find agriculture jobs with H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find agriculture roles where employers have confirmed H-2A filing history. Look for farms that file petitions on a recurring annual basis, since they typically have established processes for housing, transportation, and DOL compliance. Targeting repeat filers shortens your onboarding time significantly.
What housing and transportation does an H-2A employer have to provide?
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets federal or state safety standards for workers who can't reasonably commute daily to the worksite. They must also cover your inbound transportation costs from your home country or place of recruitment. Upon completing the contract, outbound transportation is also required. You can't be charged for any of these as a condition of employment.
Can I switch farms or employers mid-season on an H-2A visa?
Your H-2A status is tied to the specific employer named on the approved petition. If you want to work for a different farm, that employer must file a new H-2A petition for you, and USCIS must approve it before you start. Working for an unapproved employer, even temporarily, puts your status at risk.
Does an agriculture H-2A job lead to permanent U.S. residency?
H-2A is a nonimmigrant visa with no direct path to a green card built into the program. The visa is issued for the length of the job order, typically up to one year and extendable to three years total. Staying beyond your authorized period or applying for permanent status while on H-2A can complicate future visa applications.
