Document your agricultural management credentials now
Pull together records of your supervisory experience across crop cycles, safety certifications, and any bilingual crew coordination work. H-2A visa petitions require employers to justify the specialty of the role, and your documented track record speeds that process.
Verify your role qualifies as seasonal
H-2A covers temporary or seasonal positions only. General Manager roles tied to a defined harvest window or planting season qualify, but year-round operational leadership typically does not. Review your job offer terms before the employer files.
Search H-2A employers through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces agricultural employers with active H-2A filing history, so you can target operations that have already navigated the DOL certification process for managerial roles rather than starting cold with employers unfamiliar with the visa.
Ask employers about their AEWR compliance
DOL sets the Adverse Effect Wage Rate by state each year. Confirm your offer letter states the AEWR or the prevailing wage for your county, whichever is higher, since underpaid offers can trigger petition denials during DOL's job order review.
Cross-check your occupation code using O*NET
The DOL filing classifies your position using a Standard Occupational Classification code. Use O*NET to confirm whether your General Manager duties align with agricultural management codes, since misclassification can delay or invalidate the employer's H-2A job order.
Confirm housing terms before the petition is filed
H-2A employers must provide free housing that meets DOL standards. Get written confirmation of the housing location and type before your employer submits the petition, since housing details are reviewed during the DOL temporary labor certification stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find General Manager jobs with H-2A visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find General Manager positions at agricultural employers who have already sponsored H-2A workers. Because H-2A sponsorship requires DOL job order approval and free housing provisions, targeting employers with a proven filing record cuts the time spent educating unfamiliar hiring teams about the process.
What housing and transportation obligations does an H-2A employer have for a General Manager?
Your employer must provide free housing that meets federal or state health and safety standards for the full duration of your authorized work period. They must also cover transportation costs from your home country to the worksite and back at the end of your contract. These obligations apply regardless of the seniority of the role.
Does a General Manager role qualify as a seasonal position under H-2A rules?
It can, but only if the position is tied to a recurring agricultural season rather than ongoing year-round operations. General Manager roles at operations with defined planting and harvest cycles typically qualify. Roles that involve continuous administrative oversight across all twelve months are harder to certify, and DOL will scrutinize the job order closely for seasonal justification.
What wage standards apply to H-2A General Manager positions?
DOL requires employers to pay whichever is higher: the Adverse Effect Wage Rate for the state where work occurs, or the prevailing wage for the occupation and county determined through the OFLC Wage Search. For managerial agricultural roles, the prevailing wage often exceeds the AEWR, so you should ask your employer to run both calculations before the petition is submitted.
