Healthcare Data Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a healthcare data analyst in California?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in health informatics, biostatistics, public health, or a related analytical field, followed by building proficiency in SQL, Tableau or Power BI, and healthcare data systems like Epic. California does not require a state-issued license for this role, but earning a Registered Health Information Technician credential through AHIMA or a Certified Health Data Analyst designation strengthens applications considerably and is recognized by California health systems when evaluating candidates.
How much do healthcare data analysts make in California?
Healthcare data analysts in California earn a median of about $141,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,480 for the lowest 10% to over $224,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire healthcare data analysts in California?
Employers hiring healthcare data analysts in California right now include Genentech, Revolution Medicines, and Alignment Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of large integrated health systems, managed care organizations, and pharmaceutical and biotech firms headquartered in the state means hiring is sustained year-round rather than limited to peak seasons.
Which California cities have the most healthcare data analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Redwood City have the most healthcare data analyst openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its dense network of hospital systems, Medi-Cal managed care plans, and payer offices, while San Francisco draws demand from health-tech firms and large academic medical centers, and San Diego's strength in biotech and research institutions generates consistent openings for analysts who work with clinical trial and outcomes data.
Are there remote healthcare data analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most healthcare roles. Because healthcare data analysts work primarily with data systems, dashboards, and reporting tools rather than patients or physical facilities, the work is well suited to remote arrangements. About 30% of healthcare data analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly health systems and payers have adopted distributed analytics teams. Population health reporting and claims analysis positions tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a healthcare data analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to health information analyst, data coordinator, or reporting associate roles at large California health systems such as Kaiser Permanente or Sutter Health, which run structured new-graduate programs that train candidates on internal EHR and reporting platforms. Lateral moves from roles like medical coder, health information technician, or clinical operations coordinator are common entry points. Building a portfolio of SQL queries and Tableau dashboards using public California OSHPD datasets and earning a Certified Health Data Analyst credential from AHIMA gives candidates without formal experience a concrete, reviewable foundation.
Where can I find and apply to healthcare data analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to healthcare data analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and target location, then apply directly to each one.
