Industrial Designer Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a industrial designer in Nebraska?
Nebraska does not require a state-issued license to work as an industrial designer, so entry depends on education and portfolio. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in industrial design or a related field from an accredited program, such as those offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln or Creighton University's affiliated programs. Building a portfolio that shows product development work from concept through production-ready specs is the most direct path to landing your first Nebraska role.
How much do industrial designers make in Nebraska?
Industrial designers in Nebraska earn a median of about $71,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,000 for the lowest 10% to over $106,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire industrial designers in Nebraska?
Employers hiring industrial designers in Nebraska right now include HDR, Dennis, and Fiserv, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's manufacturing and agricultural equipment base means many of these employers prioritize designers with experience in durable goods, machinery components, or consumer outdoor products.
Which Nebraska cities have the most industrial designer jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Blair have the most industrial designer openings in Nebraska. Omaha leads because it anchors the state's largest concentration of manufacturing headquarters and consumer goods companies, while Lincoln benefits from proximity to the University of Nebraska's engineering programs and a growing advanced manufacturing sector that feeds consistent design hiring.
Are there remote industrial designer jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Industrial design work typically requires hands-on prototyping, lab access, and close collaboration with engineering and production teams, which limits full remote arrangements. About 0% of industrial designer openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in early-stage concept work, CAD modeling, or design research rather than production-phase roles.
How can I get hired as a industrial designer in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to junior or associate designer roles at Nebraska's manufacturing firms, where employers like Valmont Industries and Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing occasionally bring on new graduates for product development support positions. Nebraska companies in the agricultural equipment and consumer goods space also hire industrial design interns who convert to full-time roles. A portfolio showing school projects, freelance concepts, or personal product builds carries more weight than experience alone, and familiarity with SolidWorks gives candidates a concrete edge in most Nebraska listings.
Where can I find and apply to industrial designer jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to industrial designer jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings across Omaha, Lincoln, and other hiring markets in the state. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
